I've always thought of the Yellow Submarine (animated) film as perhaps a contractual obligation work. I've perceived Paul's main contribution to be "All Together Now," far from being his greatest work. And John and Paul let George have TWO of the four new songs.
I've wondered if John didn't regret coming up with a great rocker such as "Hey Bulldog" for a such as Yellow Submarine.
A really good Lennon song tucked away out of earshot.
Just my opinion.

John may have regretted it, but then five minutes later really wouldn't give a $hIt. lol But I always thought it was a really good song. Who else would do a dog bark in a rock and roll song. lol
And that's just one example at why they were so great, here you had John with the title of it 'Bullfrog' until Paul in the spare of the moment singing it, started barking. lol I don't think Paul would ever come up with a song like that, and John wouldn't think of putting a dog barking into it, but together.....magic.

Thought I'd share this interesting video.... great video, I can't remember if Hey Bulldog was on my old video of Yellow Submarine but i recently purchased the remastered Yellow Submarine on DVD and can confirm the Hey Bulldog scene is o there. I know the original album is basically one side Beatles tracks and the other side was George Martin, but The Beatles songs are great. Although George Harrison is very dismissive of "It's Only a Northern Song " i love it as i do, It's All Too Much .
