I've just been into Fopp today looking for All things must pass, ideally on vinyl but would have probably bought the cd if that was all they had. They have plenty Harrison cds and vinyl but not all things must pass, although to be honest they did have the vinyl on box set but i'm not forking out over £100 . They checked on the CD but say it's been deleted , no doubt they'll remaster it again and bring out an even more expensive package. This is getting ridiculous. Whilst i was in there i thought i'd check out the Beatles on vinyl and all there albums have pretty much had a price hike. In the last year i've bought Pepper(again before the super deluxe thingy) Abbey Rd which came with The Beatles vinyl mag(roughly £10) Beatles For Sale , again with the mag and Love also with the mag(cost about £25) and last year I bought the vinyl of The White album (£30).(Fopp) This time in Fopp, i noticed that all the Beatles double albums have been hiked up to £50 by EMI , All the single vinyl albums are £25. I know The Beatles albums are never in a sale and quite rightly, i don't mind paying extra for premium music quality but these hikes in prices are taking the micky. so in conclusion, I'm shocked.....and stunned.

Vinyl will always be expensive, I have a order in for a new LP and it is £25. I wait for CD's have dropped a bit after released. Maybe it is me but I used to dig the old bargain bins in record shops got hold of some great Lp's that way.
Haven't Beatles Lp's always been sold at a premium. I thought Sargent Pepper and the White Album were more expensive than other contempory artists back in the day I could be wrong about that though.

Beatles albums are always at Premium prices, never on sale, but i cannot understand that just a few months ago i paid £30 in Fopp for the White album yet the same shop is now selling this at £50 , even the staff member was apologetic but said it was EMI's doing.

Then the almost world famous top Independent , and we look after the Indie label bands and all the independent labels you could shake a stick at etc etc Piccadilly Records The price for the album £ 12 .99 We are talkin £2.99 more in a shop that is always flying the flag to get people buying Music again Am I just being cynical ? Any thoughts . ?

I have been hearing a lot about This is the Kit. Last week Radcliffe and Maconie played them back to back with Bowie.
Do you think price points are affected by buying power. HMV can get more stock in than Piccadilly. Piccadilly's pushes the boundaries and takes risks on new artists so that has a knock on price wise. I could be very wrong with this assumption though.

Nothing shocks or stuns me anymore lovelyrita1 when it comes to the record business! The major labels have always had a 'they want it, they'll have to pay what we want' attitude. I can remember the early days when mono was the king. It was a dollar cheaper and who cared about stereo anyways. Then your major labels came up with the brilliant idea 'no mo mono honey' you gotts to buy stereo! And for our first act to teach you all a lesson the Beatles Sgt. Peppers. Yeah you still could get mono, but everyone was saying why would you want chinzey mono when you can hear everything in stereo! Took them a few years to faze out mono completely, but they did it. Then it was onto double lps, yes we'll have everyone release a double lp! The Beatles, Dylan, Stones we'll fix they're asses, they'll have to shell out mo money too!! We'll even have artists that suck put out a double lp!!lol Then these five idiots were in a room together one day thinking of what they could do next. Hey let's get rid of singles!! We'll put out only cassette singles for these people, take it or leave it. Hey faze out those 8 tracks too, we made enough money making those, we'll just make cassettes , take it or leave it. A little further on down the line the same five idiots in a room, hey let's quit making lps and cassettes, we'll make cd's instead, take it or leave it. And we don't need any of those mom & pop stores selling our stuff and telling us what to do, get rid of those things nobody wants them you'll see! And that's where we are at now, with nobody really careing what the top acts are or who has the best selling cd! That's why you'll never see another Elvis or the Beatles in your lifetime. Hell you may never even see another Motley Cru or Kiss.
