I'm still working my way slowly through the book on Sgt Pepper than came with the 50th anniversary package, however the day before i went on holiday i picked up the Hunter Davies authorised biography of The Beatles. I started reading this on holiday, there is a 75 page introduction which clarifies some important facts since this is the updated 40th anniversary edition. I like Hunter Davies style, it's a very easy read. Nowadays students can study The Beatles at University, I wish i'd had this option when i was at school, my mind may not have wandered in class like it used to back then . I think Mark Lewisohn's book, All these years for me is for people studying for a degree (which i'd fail) and The Hunter Davies book is a much easier read. I'll restart reading the Hunter Davies book (i'm up to Paul and The Quarrymen) when i've finished the Sgt Pepper one.

I've just finished The Hunter Davies Beatles book. I'd say it's one of the best Beatles books i've read. Of course the original book ends around 1968 but this has been updated. I found it fascinating on how they wrote their songs and also the information on these huge houses and gardens they bought, how from such humble beginnings they were a little lost in all this opulence. I cannot recommend this book enough. I now need to find another Beatles book for bedtime reading and am thinking of buying The Anthology book that accompanied the fantastic dvds(and video) that came out a few years ago. Does anyone have this and is it worth getting?

I would love to see the updated version of that book. When it came out, the most recent picture of John they had was of him, Cynthia, Julian, and their dog. A happy looking family. But at the time the book came out, John was already making news with his new Japanese girlfriend Yoko Ono.
It was/is a really good book.

I bought mine recently at Waterstones £13 , such an easy and enlightening read, treat yourself , i'm sure it's worth it for the updates.

Brew, you have to register with that site to read the whole article. It fades out just under the part where he says that he feared that when the book came out it would be hopelessly out of date.
I may have to find that book.

I was about to flag this up, such a wonderful surprise to see a Glorious picture of The Beatles on the front of the Sunday Times , the main article is in the magazine section , so you need to be subscriber to read online , maybe some of your friends have yesterdays copy. Another great article by Hunter Davies. You can read this though which is similar to the article. www.rebeatmag.com/book-tom-murrays-mad-day-out-by-tom-murray-and-simon-weitzman/ It's all about "A Mad Day Out".
