Anthem Of The Peaceful Army - Greta Van Fleet (2018) The new Led Zeppelin . And they do sound just like Led Zep , but then you have the lead singer God he`s awful It`s a pity as they sound like a decent band That`s all I can say really , it was a good starter and I tried my best to embrace the singer but half n hour in I wanted to throttle him . Not a fan Stand Out Track N/A 118 Yep, I concur with that. They’re a talented bunch but they’ve gotta move away from this nonsense. The singer knows how to sing like Plant, but lacks any of the charm. The only great song on there was Brave New World, the rest ranged from “meh” to “god-awful”. Lifeless as a whole. The fact that they’ve become so popular feels like a slap in the face to music itself. If the only big acts from now on are going to be imitations of older and better bands, then I want no part in it. Yep , agree It is sad that young bands like them just sound like a band (yep Zep ) I could go on hours about Zep , I love Zep Zep are in my greatest rock bands in history , maybe you could go with the best But Zep , as with The Beatles in there debut albums covered a few songs , but they put there stamp on them This band are putting a Zep stamp on them If you get my drift .

A few to report
Centerfield - John Fogerty (1985) Via You Tube
One of the best voices in Rock in my humble And from the off you just drawn into his great distinct voice and you just think CCR ! Nice album , easy listening with no song longer than 4 minutes I think What a voice . Stand Out Track Centerfield
Bones Of A Dying World - If Trees Could Talk (2016) Via You Tube
Ol` Y.Tube threw this one my way and with a band calling themselves If Trees Could Talk how could I not ! A Post metal offering and all instrumental It`s pretty laid back Metal not your thrash stuff I liked it , maybe not a album I`d go back to but maybe I will investigate this band a bit more for sure
The Sea - Somali Yacht Club (2018) Via You Tube
Liked this one also , again post Metal / Stoner stuff and very good indeed and I am giving this the attention it needs Very early Porcupine Tree feel to it
Stephen Miller - Stephen Miller (1970) Via You Tube
No,not that Steve Miller , keep on rockin` another one Nice easy listening Blues soft rock album and it was never going to be anything else from the off really all sameish songs It was ok , heard a lot worse on this Exercise that`s for sure .

Dream Theatre - Dream Theatre (2013)
I have tried over the years to get into this band and I thought, why not Still not got into this band It`s your last 20 years standard Prog Metal stuff with really long breaks and lots of lyrics As I listened to it , I just kept thinking , less is more . Anyway , I`m not a fan .
Assasin - Pinnacle ( 1974 )
Never heard of them ?, nor I They are or were a Heavy Prog band , and it seems they really loved to record with hardly any production values in my humble Not a fan

St Vincent - St Vincent (2014)
Always been drawn to her as she`s contributed with the man, David Byrne , but never dared to do a whole album And this maybe not her best as I`ve heard much better stuff than this album and I was really disappointed . Very poor man`s Tori I`m afraid I`m not a fan .

I`m now playing the debut album from a Mr Sean Lennon... I`m Back
Into The Sun - Sean Lennon (1998)
Well. I don`t know what to say I`m trying to put a positive on this , but the only positive thing I get out of the album is that I will never listen to it again . Makes me wish I`d kept up the guitar when I left school as I`m sure if this made it to Vinyl then anybody had a chance But then again not everybody has Lennon on their passport . It really is terrible and I`d love to hear some thoughts from anyone who has the nuts to listen to this all the way through I really should be given a medal for my the sacrifice for my Exercise for listening God awful albums , like this one Like mother, like son . Not a fan

LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem (2005)
It`s scary to see the year this came out ! So it`s been awhile and it still sounds fantastic as it did back then Not much you can say about this Electronic funk stuff , yes , it`s not my kinda Music as such , but it has that Talking Heads feel to it in some songs and who the hell does`nt like North American Scum ?! A nice album to finish a tough listening day . Stand Out Track Us V`s Them (would fit nicely on Heads speaking in tongues )

I haven't been around in a while to argue about the merits of most of the albums in this feature so here's a brief roundup of ones that stood out recently: Egypt Station: Very good album mostly. Pleasantly surprised. Doing quite good as an old rocker. Spirit Of Eden: Very arty and nice for a band that started 80s pop Sir Lord Baltimore: Great early heavy rock album. Very gnarly production. And only an American can mix up titles like this. Charming. Starcastle: Trying to be YES in my mind. Good but too derivative. Greta Van Flute: I have a couple of albums by a band called Led Zeppelin who sound a lot like these guys. I've only heard a couple of snippets of a few songs. Wasn't interested enough to listen. Sex Pistols: Love them. The Great Rock And Roll Swindle is a double with more than one singer and a fair variety of sounds on it. More Malcolm's vision than the band's vision but interesting nonetheless. Zany Joy Division: I deal with clinical depression and their stuff spoke to me. Not for those who like virtuoso playing or great variety in their records as is most 80s music which is based more on/in feel than fancy music. Zappa: Having 45 or so Zappa albums I consider this my favorite out of the lot and I love the lot! Neil Young - Mirror Ball: Brilliant idea getting Pearl Jam to be his backing band. Brilliant album.

Encouraging Words - Billy Preston (1970) Via You Tube
Bit of a long story about this one , but I`ll narrow it down Went to France , went in a Record Shop , the owner was a massive and I mean massive Beatle fan and he put this on and I bloody loved it . It`s on You Tube and I`ve just played it And bloody loved it . Did you know (I did`nt) it has Harrison , Starr , Clapton , Voorman and many more 5th Beatles on it ?! Why have I missed this for so long Anyway it`s a great album and it has a few covers , All Things Must Pass , I`ve Got A Feeling and My Sweet Lord ! And it`s on Apple ! Stand Out Track My Sweet Lord

Equinoxe Infinity - Jean Michel Jarre (2018) Via You Tube
Have I ever mentioned the J.M.J`s Oxygene is one of my all time favorites ? Well it is and still is from the first time I heard it in 1977 ish Anyway ,when I came to listen to his other stuff it just did`nt Rock my analog synthesizers And Equinoxe was , a bit average , nothing as special as old Oxy ! So the man has a done a sequel (?) And again I did`nt really like it , much , it had the J.M.J. feel as the man never really likes to go far from the tree when it`s apple falling time for sequels I suppose if Oldfield can do it Is it a grower ? No ,I think not When it comes down to it , and not one for trying to change my mind with J.M.J, I just will end up putting Oxygene and turning on the Lava Lamp

It`s back Your`s and mine fav Exercise of loving the album .
When I started on X Mas 2017 I thought it would be a doddle But you know how it goes . So I`ve changed the 18 to a 19 and I think I`ll get away with it . To be fair I`ve not listened to albums for this just to get to the finish line , I`ve really sat and paid full attention to the good , the bad and the even the ugly And with only 105 to go I should walk it this year and I`m going to do some of my favs over the last 50 years ! . So then .
The Good Earth - Manfred Mann`s Earth Band (1974 ) via You Tube
Not what I was expecting and what a great album ! It`s Prog folk Rock, and concept all the things I like in a album and I have to say that I need to get this album so I can play it on repeat ! Thank heavens I can get passed Blinded By Light at last ! Stand Out Track Give Me The Good Earth

Nice one Mr K - it's good to have you back and also splendid that you've reconvened your 'exercise'. I remember the original Manfred Mann (not more than 50 years ago!) with Paul Jones on vocals - you know 'Doo Wah Diddy' and other such nonsense (I liked it actually but don't tell anyone!). Anyway, I love 'The Good Earth' and I have it on CD. Good choice. Favourite track 'Earth Hymn'. Keep up the good work mate, much appreciated. Look forward to some of your faves over the last 50 years. I'm guessing 'The Best Of The Doolies' won't be making an appearance?

Americana - Neil Young And Crazy Horse (2012)
Did you ever hear Mirrorball ? Well it`s very much in the that style but the tracks are all covers
It`s very laid back and it`s kinda enjoyable to hear Young chatting with the Horse before and after the songs I don`t think it`s ever going to be up there with his best stuff and as we all know Neil doe`snt give a monkeys about sales and all that mainstream stuff To think that this is an official release and not a bootleg or an archive release as he seems to bring them out every year it`s a brave move but there is a couple of tracks that stand out and then we have God Save The Queen which he should have left off Not a great album , but I think it`s worth a listen if your a Young fan If your not . then not . Stand Out Track High Flying Bird
New Horizon - The Answer (2013)
English Hard Rock band , they are though My metal mate at work has give me a few albums to try out and so I put this on first . Bloody loved it ! No nonsense rock standard 3 and half minute stuff Can`t think of any negatives really , nice polished sound , good vocals and maybe it`s too short I guess Maybe that`s a good thing A thumbs up on this Stand Out Track Leave With Nothin
Next up is going to be a marmite album Bat Out Of Hell Yes , I`m really going to go for it and if you want to tell me not to do it , it`s OK But I`m almost at 100 albums left and as I`ve said I`ll be going for my all time fav`s for a bit as I deserve some comfy chair albums where I can get out the biscuits and a brew and lie back and not worry about the skip button .

Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf (1977)
I`ve had a think and I don`t ever remember that I`ve sat through this album . But if I did I can see why I don`t remember Funny it is as bad as I thought it would be . Think Grease , but a bit more heavier It`s bad , yes , but it`s a classic , so it might just be me But ! I know as crazy as it sounds I bloody love the title track Always have , I remember they would put it on the Whistle Test every X Mas and we`d get to see Meat getting it on with the girl in those spandex trousers and shaking his Hanky about . It`s a shame really that song really made a benchmark for the rest of Loaf`s career as the rest of them were pretty naff All down hill , but if there is a band that has made one great song that will be remembered forever , it`s Bat Out Of Hell A tune for sure Stand Out Track Bat Out Of Hell
Messin - Manfred Mann`s Earthband (1973) Via You Tube
Tried another Manfred Mann`s Earth Band
Not as that love straight away feel as the other one , but it was alright and even this album will grow on me Funny how that this band has never got past the Blinded By Light for me ( Bit like Maetloaf ?, maybe not ) Well , now I`ve got past it and I`m going to go further into their albums for sure . Stand Out Track Black And Blue

Mr Kite - Good to see that you're 'back on track' so to speak. Geddit - track, album - oh never mind! Anyway, you've every right not to be too enamoured with 'Bat Out Of Hell'. After all, it's all about personal opinions. Although the title track maybe your 'best track', I love 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad'. Maybe it's because it reminds me of a situation I was in way back when! The album itself isn't too bad actually - not to these ears anyway! Getting back to Manfred Mann's Earth Band. They released an album in 1973 (same year as 'Messin') called 'Solar Fire'. It's a bit 'proggy' and I would like to hear your views on it if you don't mind? That said, I'm looking forward to your reviews from 100 down to 001 bearing in mind that they're going to be all your favourites! .

Yes people ! . As scary as it sounds , I do have a fav hundred albums , in fact they could be more I will listen to more Manfred and review for sure
As for Bat Out Of Hell It is an album that has sold millions and people do love it ,I know ! Funny when you think that around the late 70`s I did`nt know anyone who had the album in there collection. And I hung around with Rock lovers by the shed load . But take Dark Side Of The Moon I did`nt know anyone who did`nt have it . If we all liked the same I guess it would be a boring world indeed But to listen to an album just the once and have a instant opinion to it , is really unfair to that album When I first heard Dark Side I think I was about 15 It had that instant impact on me Is it because it`s that good ? Is it because I was into The Beatles and E.L.O. and Pink Floyd was the next level ? Makes you think Maybe there was something in my nogging that would get a buzz about deep depressing lyrics and songs that went on for ages instead of songs like smash hit tunes around that time like Your The One That I Want and No one quite like Grandma I guess I`m lucky .
Tonight I have my first Gig of the year ! Isreal Nash at the Brudenell Club in Leeds If you like Neil Young , you`ll like Mr Nash
