Hey Mr Kite , glad to see you're still doing this. I've got a bit of a suggestion for you in future: Bruce Dickinson - The Chemical WeddingThis is the Iron Maiden singer's fifth solo album and is based on alchemy and the works of William Blake. It's been my favorite album period since earlier this year. I love it and would be interested in hearing your thoughts. I doubt it's the kind of music you usually enjoy but you may get something out of it. now i've got Day Tripper in my head ha ha

You got a good reason ... Hello again D.T.! I have it on right now . Slow Train Coming - Bob Dylan (1979) I was so so much into Dylan at this time back in the day and then this album came out . I borrowed it off my mate (I`m a Manc and if you know any , we like trying stuff before we buy ) and lo , I hated it and it did`nt help with it turning out that Bob had gone all Christianity like So back in 1979 I went off Dylan and I never have listened to this album until last night . Y`know it is`nt that bad as I thought it was ( I`m getting really soft ) and even had a bit of a foot tap The track Serve Somebody has some right God awful lyrics like "Some call me Bob , some call me Zimmer " or something like that (Not putting it on again ) When you think that he inspired a generation back in the 60`s it`s pretty weird he`d even think of such stuff But as in all Musicians they are after all only human . I guess if I play this a few more times I`d grow to like it . Should I try a few more of his "Jesus albums " as I use to call them ? Who knows , who`d ever thought I`d listen to .. The Chemical Wedding - Bruce Dickinson (1998) Not a Iron Maiden fan , but I guess Bruce left them to better himself or something like that Anyway I`m listening to more Metal these days and hey ! this is really good ! Is it concept ?! I think it must be , and the guitar riffs do get the head nodding 2 tracks I did like are Book Of Thel and Gates Of Urizen which has great guitar riffs ! Jerusalem was a bit Spinal Tap ,but then again the Guitar stuff ! , turn it up to 11 Just can`t get them restricted growth people dancing round the tiny Stonehenge I digress .. A good album , could have cut a fair few minutes off it though , Metal is`nt a long sit in my humble 125 124

Nevermind The Bollocks Here`s The Sex Pistols - Sex Pistols (1977)
A great 70`s album ! Seriously though , it`s a good album even though they were the enemy back then I always loved Holidays In The Sun even back then Bit of an antidote Went to Hyde on a Saturday morning in 77 with a pound and bought 2 singles from Woolworth`s Wonderous Stories by Yes and Holidays In The Sun and it was awhile before I threw it on a bonfire when I became a devote Heavy Rocker . Seems like an almost Artic Monkeys album now with all the urban stuff going on , against this and against that . But it was the 70`s .. Stand Out Track Holidays In The Sun

It is a bit of a concept album; Bruce was writing about alchemy, had a bit of writers block, and starting reading William Blake, which is where "Book of Thel", "Gates of Urizen", and "Jerusalem" come from. So yeah, between those two sources, it's a concept album, just not the most conceptual overall. I'm glad you enjoyed it overall. Since you did this one, you should also check out my other favorite album, The Call of the Wretched Sea by Ahab. This is probably the furthest thing from your taste but you make get something from it (it's based on Moby Dick). It's very long though, so be warned...

Hello ! I will give that album ago D.T. ! I think I can get through a few more Metal albums this week, I`ve got the taste for it at the mo . As for Pigs Pigs Pigs .... I may have a shot at that as well if it pops up full album on You Tube , which is no doubt it will
P.I.L. Pothos I duno about them , they were again not my cuppa back then I think I`ve ventured enough with Mr. Rotten Judee Sill Have I done one of her albums ? Its getting a bit vague now on what I`ve done I do like her in parts , but then again there is`nt many lady Folkies I don`t like You may or may not know that Miss Bush is re releasing all her albums , so I may do the one`s I`m not over keen on Which still are fabulous though .

I can't remember if you have done Gentle Giant, (you should have if you haven't) any way our friend SW has remixed some of their songs and is out on a double vinyl album called 'Three Piece Suite'. Of course there are the other formats as well. I just had a listen to the track 'Nothing at all' on youtube and he has made a great job remixing. I will probably get the album soon and it might be a good one for you to review. Just an idea.

After last night catching a 1986 Top Of The Pops repeat. A few things registered with me why the era was so badly thought of.
The One hit wonder.* So many tracks seemed to be by bands that seemed to only have one massive hit then disappear.
The short life span of established acts.* I am amazed looking back at how many acts split between 4 to 6 years.
Guitars become unfashionable. * Synthesizers are everywhere.
The Rise of the Mega Solo Star * Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Brice Springsteen. (Nothing intrinsically wrong with that but bands became a declining force)
The Rise of the Video* Great as an artistic medium (Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel were amazing at balancing both e sound and vision.) However a lot of money was wasted on not developing bands. Also broke acts way to early which I think led to the short lifespan of bands.
Rock Goes Underground * I can only think of Iron Maiden as being a regular chart act and global force.
New Rock / Pop Journalism * I read both Smash Hits and NME. Smash Hits was funnier and more supportive of music of any genre.
The Desecration of the Old Guard. * I think for the first time the sex drugs and rock and roll era was questioned, you heard so many stories that made your jaw drop and in some ways the industry never recovered. The impact meant that many bands musical career took decades to be reassessed. Sad also that I can name many 80's acts that made the same mistakes as their predecessors and paid the ultimate price.
Good points of the 80's scene
Much are aware of the downside of the industry. Bands and buyers knowing all the horrible issues that the previous generation had gone through and were prepared to explore the edges of the musical scenes. I really got the bug for late night radio one and heard many new sounds and established acts like Captain Beefheart thanks to leaving the radio on all day.
A real awareness of musical history and influence becomes apparent.
Sorry for rambling. Wanted to get these thoughts down when I could.

Regarding the “rock goes underground” part of your post, I would say that’s accurate, but not in the way you were thinking. While pop took the mainstream listeners by storm, the ‘80s were all the years that heavy metal really became a thing. Maiden became a tour-de-force, yes, but bands like the thrash Big 4 also gained popularity, and by the end of the year we were even receiving death metal. Typically rock has faded, but its offshoot hair metal took center stage as well. Ultimately I would say that normal rock went underground, but that allowed one of its sub genres to gain prominence.

Interesting points there Pothos And I have to admit that I really thought Rock was dead in the 80`s , God bless Nirvana
Anyway ! 3 to report on
Feed The Rats - Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (2017) Via Youtube
From Newcastle are these boys and they are a Dome Metal , Lemmy vocalist sounding band And with just 3 tracks , you don`t get much variation that`s the theme really There are plenty of bands these days doing this kinda Metal and this album does`nt bring anything different or fresh to the table I can`t see them playing large arenas in the near future .
Live Through This - Hole (1994)
This album has been a fav of mine since it came out and it`s been awhile , 1994 ! And yes folks it still Rocks ! Is it, was it underrated ? , I don`t remember , but with fantastic tracks like Doll`s Violet , Miss World and the balls`y Asking For It which was at that time a subject that a bit of a touchy subject (If you get my drift ) There is that Feminist theme with a few of songs and Love sings them with real passion and this really makes the album a standout grunge album of those times that had a message or two Anyway ! The album is a classic and if it went under the radar at that time it`s a pity , the album came out a week after Cobain had shot himself . Such a great album and what ever the curcumstances were with the bad timing , it`s unfair to call this album a cash in Stand Out Track Rock Star ( Worth the entrance fee with this one track )
Belle Of The West - Samantha Fish (2018)
I`ve finally got a ticket to see this Blues Rock lady ! So , with the video of her doing Sabbath`s War Pigs and rocking the house down in my mind , it really rocks ,check it out on You Tube , I got her new album ! And doe`s it Rock ? Not it the slightest ! But , it`s bloody wonderful and I`m in love with it already ! It has that wonderful feel of a live set , and it may even have been recorded with that intention , it`s glorious ! It might not Rock , but it certainly rocked my boat Stand Out Track Daughters

Earth Rocker - Clutch (2013) A absolute no nonsense brilliant hard rock album I bloody loved it and I`m bloody well buying it when I`ve got a spare week where I`m not buying albums I`ve bought before and tickets for Gigs that are next year etc etc etc Yep a fantastic album , that`s all I can say , loved it from the off Is it a stayer , I duno , but who cares Stand Out Track (most of them but ..) DC Sound Attack 119 I`m now only 19 albums away from 100 albums left ! I might celebrate with doing albums I love and maybe ones that people hav`nt heard or something ...

Have you ever reviewed Kate Bush's The Dreaming?. Her most complicated and difficult LP IMHO. I personally think it is underrated.

The thing is though it has you listening to stuff that you`d maybe just listen to one track here or there and you don`t really give the band a chance But the best part about it is that I`ve found a fair few new bands I now love ! Yes Pothos I`ve done Dreaming on the Kate Bush thread , I think . I`ll go and have a look .. Here it is .. beatleforum.proboards.com/thread/1439/kate-bush?page=12

Anthem Of The Peaceful Army - Greta Van Fleet (2018)
The new Led Zeppelin . And they do sound just like Led Zep , but then you have the lead singer God he`s awful It`s a pity as they sound like a decent band That`s all I can say really , it was a good starter and I tried my best to embrace the singer but half n hour in I wanted to throttle him . Not a fan Stand Out Track N/A

The Trails Of Van Occupanther - Midlake (2006)
Not listened to this band for a long time . I`ll be a long time again .. Not a great album , it`s harsh to say that on a one listen , I`ve heard it ages ago and I can see why I didn`t play it again . Check out The Courage Of Others if you want to hear them on better form This album is a miss I`m afraid Stand Out Track N/A

Not a fan Stand Out Track N/A 118 Yep, I concur with that. They’re a talented bunch but they’ve gotta move away from this nonsense. The singer knows how to sing like Plant, but lacks any of the charm. The only great song on there was Brave New World, the rest ranged from “meh” to “god-awful”. Lifeless as a whole. The fact that they’ve become so popular feels like a slap in the face to music itself. If the only big acts from now on are going to be imitations of older and better bands, then I want no part in it.
