What was the first Beatles #1 single outside the UK? When was it originally released in the UK (day/month/year)? When was it released in the country outside the UK (day/month/year)? When did it go #1 in that country (day/month/year? And how long did it spend at #1 in that country? Any information that you could pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much..........................Dave

Thank you Mr Kite for your kind welcome.
"From Me To You" released in the UK on Apr.11,1963 is named as their first #1 single released in the UK. It's said that it went #1, on May 4,1963, for 7 weeks. Wikipedia says that "Love Me Do", released in the U.S. in 1962 didn't reach #1 until 1964. The only other charted #1 for "Love Me Do" released in 1962 is, according to Wikipedia, on an Australian chart. But I can't find a date that it reached #1 on that chart. The reason that I'm curious is that if the date that "Love Me Do" reached #1 on the Australian chart is after May 4,1963 then "From Me To You" is not only the first Beatles #1 single release in the UK, but also their first #1 single release worldwide. All these questions are because I just purchased and framed a near mint copy of "From Me To You", for my daughter, and engraved a brass plate below with it being the Beatles first #1 UK release. That's true, but maybe not the whole truth.
Clear as mud?.....I think I need a life!!..................Dave

Hello Dave and welcome to the forum!
It appears The Beatles first number one in Australia was I Want To Hold Your Hand in December 1963. Love Me Do was number one in Australia in February 1964 as B or double A-side with I Saw Her Standing There.
The Wikipedia reference that I can find states 1962 - 1964
Chart (1962–64) Peak position Australian Kent Music Report[50] 1 Canada CHUM Chart[51] 8 UK Singles (Official Charts Company)[52] 17 US Billboard Hot 100[53] 1 US Cash Box Top 100[54]

Well thank you very much for that information. I think it's looking more and more as if, based on the release dates, charting dates, and dates that the record reached #1, "From Me To You" was, in fact, their very first #1 record release, worldwide. Whew! I'm glad that's settled. I love this quote, apparently made by Paul McCartney, "The first time I thought we'd really made it, was when I was lying in bed one morning, and I heard a milkman whistling 'From Me to You'. That would have been awesome! Da da da da da dum dum da..............Dave

There is an argument to say Please Please Me was their first number. It was number one in 3 out of 4 charts in the UK on release. However let's forget that so as not to spoil that beautiful gift for your daughter!

Thanks for the link Rocky. It was very interesting. It claims that the chart used nationally in the U.K. was compiled by "Record Retailer", later to become "Music Week". Apparently this chart was used for "official" purposes. With so much controversy attached, I don't suppose we'll ever reach a definitive conclusion. I don't know how many songs were written and released by The Beatles, but every single one is #1 with me. One opinion, quoted in the link, did catch my attention though. It was to quote, "Consequently, there will always be much debate as to which record was actually The Beatles first number one, and quiz compilers and the like should avoid asking this question because of the ambiguity of the answer!" Ha! Now my feelings are hurt. Actually, the only point of ambiguity that I can personally see is this. Is the list of songs presented in the list on the link, the "official" Record Retailers/Music Week chart list? Thanks again Rocky........................................Dave (and the like)
