Bongo gave me a great idea for a list.... The '80s thread being mainly intended for the only more non-rock songs of the '80s, I thought that perhaps a list of songs that ROCKED the '80s would be in order. Basically, I'm taking 80 hard rock, hair metal, or metal songs from the ideas and ranking them. It's still up in the air for which ones will ultimately find their way onto the list, so if you've got a suggestion, feel free to post it! Now, let's kick off.... The Songs That ROCKed The '80s!

The title track to Quiet Riot's third album has had many names on different releases, but nevertheless is still considered on of their best songs. It caught many metal fans' attentions thanks to it being about the headbanging subculture.
80. Quiet Riot - Metal Health

Ok. Let's rock the 80s. NOT an 80s band but a definitely great 80s comeback!

I think it's a neat idea to try and explain why we like what we do instead of just saying, 'This rocked! Check it out.'
I didn't like everything that happened to rock/metal in the 80s but one thing I did like was the sound of the records and the tightness of the playing. Things (partially because of punk) started to speed up and I find that the bands were tighter and better performers.
Iron Maiden were considered extreme at the time and with Paul D'Ianno (?) with short hair there was a short period where they were considered as straddling the fence between punk rock and metal. Of Course when Dickinson started with them, there really was no question what they were. But they were FAST. That was new(ish).
And to play fast music and be able to stop on a dime, you need to be reasonably proficient on your instruments. Of course that gave birth to bands like Slayer and Metallica who basically defined speed/thrash metal. Lars Ulrich is probably to blame for 'blast beats'. Gotta love death and black metal.
Yes. I'd say that of the groups I did like, the records sounded better and the playing was more technically good.

Incidentally, my favorite maiden song next to Rime Of The Ancient Mariner.

Possessed is my personal favorite death metal band. This song, along with "Death Metal", could be considered their absolute best.
79. Possessed - The Exorcist

Since I've finally finished off my list, you can start guessing as to what will make it's way on to it. Also, here's another song from the list from the Gods of Death Metal themselves.
77. Death - Pull The Plug

Nun of this is complete without Lita Ford & Joan Jett’s Runaways, with their big hit Cherry Bomb

And speaking of which, let's continue the countdown now with a band best known for "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", but also with other good songs; namely:
76. Blue Öyster Cult - Burnin' For You

This song was listed in the PMRC's 'Filthy Fifteen' list thanks to its... well... you get the picture. Nevertheless, it's one of W.A.S.P.'s best-known, and overall best, songs.
74. W.A.S.P. - Animal (F*ck Like A Beast)

A double shot of poison now. First off is the king of shock-rock, best during the '70s, but nevertheless, this was an awesome song, too.
73. Alice Cooper - Poison

I said that Lita Ford and Joan Jett would both pop up on the list, and here's the first one. Still a great song to listen to on the radio today.
71. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'n' Roll
