I watched the first of the Music Moguls series and found it fascinating. A couple of points emerged; firstly again how fortunate the Beatles were to have Brian Epstein and not someone like Larry Parnes or, worse still, Don Arden. Secondly, Andrew Loog Oldham admitting that he manipulated the record sales figures to boost the popularity of the 'Stones [and also that he created their rebel image] Next week the series features recod producers.

I thought the only managers to come out with any credit were Epstein, Peter Grant, and the managers for U2, Dire Straights, and Adele. The Stones must be as annoyed as hell about Loog Oldham; McLaren was odd and I felt a generation too old to even understand the Beiber scenario.
Interesting you can see the problem with U2 being coupled with the notion of them being a pseudo PLC. The music industry comes over as damn well terrifying.

I thought the role of the producer was fascinating and watching Visconti dissect Bowie's Heroes was amazing and very moving.

Just watched this... UK's Best Part-Time BandFor those without the BBC Iplayer you can watch it here: I must admit I expected some of the bands to be embarrasing, but the standard was very high, and I fully enjoyed every single band.

Here's the next episode....
... again If I'd paid to see any of these bands I would have been happy. I never realised that there were still bands playing Punk. I like the way the program is put together, totally unlike the awful talent "reality" shows that fill the schedules.

The reason I think it works is that it shows the slog of keeping a band going. Some covers and original stuff no prizes but loads of stage prescience.
One thing people forget is that many of the biggest acts we have ever produced slogged their guts out for years and went hungry just dreaming of making music.
The idea of a group of working Dr's in a punk band playing Marilyn Manson tracks is surreal.

It is not on BBC4 but tomorrow night Sat 9th at 10pm on the Discovery channel, there is a program called 'Crimes of the Century' and it is about the murder of John Lennon. Unfortunately I cannot get Discovery but I thought you might be interested pothos if you can get it.

Yes wasn't it amazing. Blackstar was amazing and Phillippe Jaroussky who did Always crashing in the same car blew my mind. Neil Hannon, Paul Buchannan, in fact I loved it all.

Yes Blackstar was the track for me, sublime. The Stargaze collective performed Boards of Canada and Grateful Dead in April, link to their schedule here we-are-stargaze.com/projects-blog/
