We have a rock thread; now let's narrow it down a bit and have it specifically metal.
My favorite metal songs are:
5. Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
4. Return To Hangar - Megadeth
3. Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne
2. Run To The Hills - Iron Maiden
1. Hangar 18 - Megadeth

I`m a bit partial to Metal now and again . The finest Metal album ever made , and ever will be made for me is Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath in My Humble But their second album though produced the greatest Metal song ever in my humble War Pigs .
Love Anvil ! Seen them twice !

Sabbath is really considered the beginners of metal. They are good.
You really hardly hear about Anvil. I wonder why.

Love your enthusiastic involvement. Keep it up.
I have a complicated relationship with heavy metal over all because there's so many styles to choose from. Classic Metal New Wave of British Heavy Metal Doom/sludge Death Black Goregrind Hair Drone
and on and on........
I LOVE Iron Maiden. Can't stand Def Leppard. Love Sabbath but not into Ozzy solo. I guess i like the 'classic' genre, the Iron Maiden type stuff and doom/drone.
And I like to hear artists who aren't known for Metal, trying their hand at metal. For example, one of my favorite sludge metal songs of all time is by,,,,wait for it,,,, MOBY

You're right; metal has so many subgenres that sometimes I'll go, "What? That's nothing like the song I heard before!"
Def Leppard isn't really metal anymore, they're mostly hard rock. Never heard that Moby song before.

I love old Metal like Judas Priest, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue ,Accept, Dio/Black Sabbath, Krokus, Motorhead, Saxon, Scorpions >(going to see them this Saturday in Montreal), Yngwie Malmsteen, and others that I can't think of right now.
Can't for whatever reason get into new Metal!

Gotta give a thumbs up to Zeppelin as one of our Metal founders as well! My 2nd fav band! I just don't see Led Zeppelin as a metal band in anyway, shape or form. That's not a put down in anyway. There's just a lot more depth to them. Helter Skelter is more metal than anything Led Zeppelin ever did. So, if anyone is, The Beatles are the founders of Heavy Metal. Discuss!!

There's just a lot more depth to them. They basically stole blues music and heavied it up, so maybe not heavy metal, but there was no metal as of yet at the time!

Helter Skelter is more metal than anything Led Zeppelin ever did. So, if anyone is, The Beatles are the founders of Heavy Metal. Discuss!! How do we define heavy metal. Is it a style or volume. Blue Cheer predated Helter Skelter by several months. OR would Dazed And Confused be possibly heavy metal? Zep recorded that around the same time as the White album came out. Dazed... is heavy as planets but is it metal? Helter Skelter is a tuneless roar and I think it quite stood out in it's time. It's also very hyper and undisciplined. Very chaotic and sounding like it's about to come off the rails. Anyway I always felt the same way. Helter Skelter was another of many styles the lads tried out on the White album that would spawn multiple genres of music. BUT I wonder if the doom riff on 'She's So Heavy' is more 'metal. Just add distortion and you have some sludge metal. Discuss..........
