It is a great LP in my books, but really if you look at it, there are only 2 hits on it: Band On The Run & Jet. And yet it's considered a classic. Definitely my 2nd Fav Macca LP after RAM.
Nice write up Mr. Kite

Although, Nineteen Hundred Eighty-Five is also a bit popular on Sirius XM stations.

Nice write up Mr. Kite Cheers Bongo ! A good point there as I guess it is an album with "2 hits" on it But you could say that with Sgt. Pepper , Dark Side Of The Moon and many more albums The thing is with Band On The Run is that the songs have that perfect togetherness . On a personal note This album was my first of my own went out and bought album and it got me from buying singles to want to own more albums It was a bit of a life changer for me My next 2 albums I bought after B.O.T.R. Ram and Red Rose Speedway .

Nice Band On The Run review Mr Kite. I can't disagree with anything you've said there. Doesn't Denny Laine have a co-writing credit on No Words? I've always wondered what Denny Laine contributed musically. Was he just strictly rhythm guitar and vocals? I kind of get the impression McCartney hogged all the lead guitar parts.

Yes . It is a strange one with Laine not getting much Song writing credit on the Album But according to Wiki ( just looked ) he is credited for No Words ! I will look into that . Now I`m only going off memory and I guess an uneducated guess that McCartney plays all the leads on the tracks . Also . I guess you know the story of Paul and Linda getting mugged in Lagos and his tape of tracks for the album stolen Do think he just did the songs from the tape again or did he write some more stuff for the album I don`t think he ever mentions it . Do you have any favorites from the album apart the obvious ones ? Big Barn Bed . I just never got it as an opener for a album . I do like it it`s just not one I would pick from the album to open . I would have really gone for The Mess studio , but a bit of a quicker tempo .

Let Me Roll It and 1985 defo my favourites with Jet and Band On The Run close behind. Can't fault the album at all.
McCartney spoke about the mugging in Lagos on Wingspan. He said he could remember the songs and just re-recorded them. I wonder what happened to those tapes. Be worth a fortune now!

I`m back . Let Me Roll is quality . I do remember him mentioning it on Wingspan . I must watch it again for future reference I have just dug out my Band On The Run song book ( I was that obsessive with the album ) and it say`s No Words was written by McCartney and Laine . I have another ponder . Don`t you think that 1973 was without doubt Macca`s best year when it came to recording and material he put out ? Red Rose Speedway and Band On the Run. Albums My Love , Live and Let Die , Helen Wheels and Jet . Singles And they even managed a UK Tour. 21 Dates . What do you think .

Yes, definitely. His most consistent by far. Every album had a couple of great tracks, good songs and average songs but nothing like this level of quality.
The band was better 75/76 but the songs weren't as good as 73. Shame we never got more of the Holly/Juber line up. I'm quite partial to Back To The Egg.

Yep the next Wings line up after poor Geoff got the chop was without the finest and what a World Tour ! We have so much ground to cover that`s for sure . Sorry about the pun .

Something popular now or at the time it was released, or something that will pop up on a list of greatest things. (I've seen the entire Boston album on a list, and all of the songs on DSOTM that have words on the same list.)

A hit is classified as a song that makes a countries official chart top 20. Would you describe Beethoven's 5th Symphony as a hit?

I’m sure a ’73 World Tour would have been great if he kept a band long enough... Last Macca concert I attented, he played "Mrs. Vandebilt". I was pleasantly shocked. Ho, Hey Ho, Ho Hey Ho!

Old Siam Sir - one of Macca's most underrated songs. Just short of a few decent lyrics. Discuss.
