Ta Bongo ! Red Rose SpeedwayReleased 4th May 1973 (30 April US ) Paul McCartney – vocals, piano, bass, guitar, electric piano, mellotron, celeste, Moog synthesizer Linda McCartney – vocals, piano, organ, electric piano, electric harpsichord, percussion Denny Laine – vocals, guitar, bass, harmonica Henry McCullough – guitar, backing vocals, percussion Denny Seiwell – drums, percussion Now I`m not a technical kinda fellow when it comes to sound on Albums but this album always seemed to me as very bland . Roll on the remaster ! And when we do get it I`m sure we will have a bounty of un released stuff as Red Rose was intended as a double album Big Barn BedAs you may or may not know that this song was left off Ram , but you get a little snippet of it at the end of Ram On (reprise ) It`s always puzzled me why this one is the album opener as it`s a basic 3 minute repeat chorus average song . Only Macca knows the answer to that one . My Love Now we go into the love song that for me is one of Macca`s finest and if it had 3 other Beatles on it I think it would be in the breadth of Yesterday and And I love Her Great solo from Henry and as Macca always tells the tale of Henry doing it off his own back . Familiarity breeds contempt but this for me never tires . Get On The Right Thing Another leftover from Macca solo stuff , which then we must be talking about a year and a half ? This has a McCartney album feel for me and I would love to have heard it without all extra utility sinks he throws in . One More Kiss A short and sweet tune which has a hint of country and it has a Country Dreamer feel which just happens to be another track that was left off. Little Lamb DragonflyNow this is my favorite song from the album Great song that again came from the Ram sessions and has Hugh McCracken on Guitar . Macca`s vocals have always thrown me as he seems to for me sound like if anything like Denny Laine ! Brilliant song and I think it`s one of his under the radar songs for me I can`t wait to hear the Remaster ! Single PigeonA nice litty ditty and I have a soft spot this one and I`ve been heard many a time in the shower singing this with my loffah When The NightAnother great little song "Yes the light fell on me " Love it ! Loup (First Indian On The Moon) This instrumental would again fitted along with the McCartney album and what a Bass I always felt that this track was a bit of a strange one for Macca to put out as he`s known as a bit of a singer If anything I think it was a track that was for himself and a two fingers to his critics Medley; Hold Me Tight/Lazy Dynamite/Hands Of Love/Powercut Great medley and it`s Macca nod to Abbey Rd and a fab little instrumental of each song from the Medley that brings the album to a close . So that`s it folks Maybe not an album that will ever be in anyone`s top greatest albums of all time , but I guess if you want an album that is a good ol` sing a long this one for you and your loffah

Maybe not an album that will ever be in anyone`s top greatest albums of all time That about sums it up for me too Mr Kite. I remember "My Love" being huge when it came out and the rest of the LP just listenable. What I did not know is about the leftover songs from Ram, and it almost being a double LP, thank you for sharing that little tidbit!

I’ll save other people and myself the money. Listen to it here for free: I can help . It was`nt recorded during Wings time , so it`s not a Wings related album even though it was finally released in 1977 . It was Orchestrated by Richard Hewson at the time of the Ram recording It`s like for like of the the Ram album without vocals (for it`s Orchestral) and Produced by Paul McCartney

Any ideas . Yes. In those days when millions of copies of any album was pressed, they might use a set of stampers for 100,000 copies or more and by the end of the run, the quality has deteriorated to the extent that you have a dull sounding record. And because usually albums from Beatles sell by the boatload, more than one plant might be pressing them and may have just got a substandard stamper. The other reason a record might sound bad is poor recycled vinyl (an '80's curse) or the album's too bloody long. Although London Town is fairly long but my copy sounds great. Sounds much better than Red Rose Speedway. It's an album I haven't delved into too much because I heard it on my bland sounding vinyl. I just remember thinking each time I played it 'damn this album drags on and on...'. So I illegally downloaded the '90's re-master and listened to that and it was really good.

I see. Mine was bought in 73 or maybe 74 I cant for the life of me remember as I was young . So it`s been that flat since then . Yeh the same with London Town again that never seemed right . I was so gutted when Macca missed out Red Rose on the Remasters and put out Tug Of War and Pipes Of Peace instead . How long have we got to wait now ?! And Wild Life ! I think these would be more enjoyable than his pretty average 80`s albums . I should be getting my Wings At The Speed remaster through the post very soon 2 CD is very cheap at the mo on Amazon . That will come in handy for my Speed Of Sound review

They have McCartney in the Hall of Fame solo, though. Personally, they should change the name to the 'Music Hall of Fame'. It stopped being 'rock and roll' ages ago.

The Hall Of Fame is like Fifa is to football . But Wings are worthy . They had 12 top ten Singles and a No 1 which is one of the best selling singles ever 14 top ten Singles in the US including 6 number 1`s ! All 9 albums went Top Ten in the UK and the US A very successful world Tour and conquered US and Canada with over 600 000 seeing the shows Not bad in 8 years .

OK folks tomorrow night I will be reviewing Band On The Run ! ( I know , I can`t wait either !) But in the meantime here is the single that appeared on the US Band On The Run. Helen Wheels / Country Dreamer Released 26th Oct.1973 (12th in US) This song was a beginning for me into the world of Wings and I always have a soft spot for it . Very 70`s almost Glam feel to it and it`s all about Macca`s Land Rover that he drove around His Scottish estate . Recorded in Lagos Nigeria along with the up and coming album in December of this year of 73 , Band On The Run .

Band On The RunReleased 7th December 1973 ( 5th in US ) Recorded August–October 1973 EMI Studios and ARC Studio, Lagos, Nigeria; AIR Studios, London This album is McCartney`s finest moment since he left The Beatles in his career for me. I guess that after this album and the success it had and all the critics loving it this album became a ball and chain to the rest of his recording career in the same way Dark Side Of The Moon was to Pink Floyd . The Rolling Stone Magazine voted it the best album of 1974 and with Rock music at it`s peak of all peaks that took some doing . Was it that good ? Yes it was and even today is one of the finest albums to be put on a turntable . Paul McCartney – vocals; acoustic, electric and bass guitars; piano and keyboards; drums and percussion Linda McCartney – keyboards and vocals Denny Laine – vocals; acoustic, electric and bass guitars; keyboards; percussion Band On The RunWhat a way to open an album ! This track always for me is one of those songs that never gets boring so how many times you hear it along side Eagles Hotel California which has the feel it it and you get drawn into a tell characters like Jailer man and Sailor Sam , sounds corny but it works The Bass is just sublime on this track and Macca never sounded better after this . Jet Yet another song about a dog of Macca`s I great rockin tune and it just sounds so 70`s and we get to hear Howie Casey on Saxophone . This Track was the first single from the album which was not a bad call as it soon became a favorite over the next 30 odd years at McCartney concerts. Bluebird Have to admit I love this song to point that I could sing it acapella Written in Jamaica and it oozes that late night on a beach with the sun sinking into that warm calm sea and with a Tenor Saxophone... Anyway it`s a great little song . Mr`s Vandebilt Again another fav of mine and always reminds me of a Simon and Garfunkel song Keep The Customer Satisfied Lots of thrashing acoustics and a great little guitar solo . Let Me Roll ItThe critics for some reason put this one down as a Lennon imitation Absolute nonsense . Such a great song with a great raw guitar and fantastic vocals another song I never tire of hearing ManmuniaThis for some strange is the only track that has the feel of where the album was recorded. Africa A wonderful acoustic track with yet again as on most of the tracks on the album great harmonies No WordsA short and sweet song that is just wonderful and again those harmonies man ! I think this song is a cast off of the McCartney album , just has that same feel to it ( I could be wrong ) Picasso`s Last Words (Drink To Me) Written at a dinner party at Dustin Hoffman`s house and Hoffman not believing Macca could`nt write a song about anything he pulled out a Magazine that had Piccaso`s last words . Superb . Another acoustic song with the three of them almost playing on the drunkin singalong and a throw back of Michelle with a few French phrases Denny gets a bit of a solo on this one and with Macca lovin his medley`s we get "Jet" thrown in The track was recorded at Ginger Bakers ACR studio and of course plays percussion on the track . Nineteen Hundred And Eighty FiveA tune . Macca on a blistering Piano and fantastic vocals Can not really find a way to describe the song and do it justice , it`s just a song that has to be heard .. Loud . What a track to finish an album and Macca has to throw in one last touch to give the album a reprise of Band On The Run .
