You Know My Name was played on the radio yesterday and as it is a track I have never heard before does anyone have any interesting stories about it.

Ah your first time huh?
Well, the short version: It was recorded in several sections over a few days in 1967. Brian Jones came along and played sax on one section. Then it sat. Then in 1969 John and Paul put all the silly voices on all the sections. THEN later in 1969, Lennon considered putting it out as a Plastic Ono Band single as the b-side to What's The New Mary Jane which was then shelved. THEN in March 1970 someone decided to put it on the b-side of Let It Be and it was finally released. The end.

In addition to Amadeus' accurate resume, the song's title came to John when he was in Paul's house and there was a 'phone book on the piano with a little note that read 'You know the name, look up the number'. Little known fact : Paul is reported as having said that it was 'probably his favourite Beatle song'

I heard an interview along similar lines. When asked by the interviewer what his favourite song was that he'd written he said it was always the last one. He was then asked what his favourite Beatles song was and keeping with the thinking of what he had just said stated You Know My Name.
That's roughly what I remember anyway.

To put it in context listen to Tom Robinson's show on 6 Music last Sunday and it was played. He stated he thought he knew all of The Beatles and he had never heard it before. I must admit I like it though.

I guess I just assumed every Beatles fans knew every song.
I like it too pothos, not just because it's The Beatles, but because it is quite humorous.

I didn't find out about this song for a long time.
But loved it when hearing it. Both versions are good

The first clip is from the original 1967 demo with John trying to work out the chords and the second by Apple Jam playing the thing live (not a bad rendition).
