Not dead yet. This will likely only resonate with Canadians but Gord Downie, lead singer of The Tragically Hip will likely die this year from brain cancer. They are going on a farewell tour this summer to say goodbye to the fans. A dead man walking. We are overcome.

Sad news about the Swarb, one of the first records I owned was Martin Carthy's second album, which had Dave Swarbrick accompanying him.

I know no associated with music but Mohammed Ali passing is an end of an era. I know he could 'sting like a bee' - but he couldn't, as far as I can recollect, 'sing like anyone' other than himself! Irrespective of my pathetic attempt at a pun, he was, without doubt, one of the greatest boxers (of his era) the world has ever seen. R.I.P Ali.

There was a radio 4 program called 'When Cassius met the Beatles' it was broadcast in 2015, although it is still on the iplayer it does not seem to work. Here is some of the script anyway. February 1964: The Beatles fly into Miami, sparking Beatlemania as they prepare to perform on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Meanwhile in a low-rent Miami gym, the underdog Cassius Clay trains to fight reigning champion Sonny Liston for the world title. The pundits say Clay hasn't a hope. Quite unexpectedly, the paths of these legendary figures cross.
British photographer Harry Benson arranges for the Beatles to visit Cassius Clay in the gym. Clay picks up Ringo and swings him around the ring as if he's no heavier than a toddler, as the other band-members lie at his feet. Clay pretends to knock all four Beatles down with a single punch. The resulting images remain in the memory long after this brief encounter.

For anyone interested BBC 5 Live had an evening of Ali memories which will still be on the web site. To think they though Ali would be killed in at least two fights.

Great guitarist Henry McCullough. As well as Wings and Spooky Tooth he was also with The Frankie Miller band, Joe Cockers Grease band (I'm sure he's on the Woodstock performance - looks like him anyway but haven't confirmed this) and Dr Feelgood for a period. RIP
