I'll tell you honestly, THOSE '80's completely passed me by. I almost didn't notice them except that my sister lived there. I never even went to visit! IMO, the music I listed has nothing in common with the '80's you're in hate with Mr K. But then my tastes are usually bloody brilliant.

Oh yeah, and Margret Thatcher caused The Final Cut. And I'm not familiar with the Phil Collins that you're talking about.

Yeah. Except for Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures.
It sounds like you were scarred by all the worst that the decade had to offer. I put on protective clothing and waded in carefully. There was still good music, they just wore different clothes and didn't get played on the radio.
Go For It! Just Say No! Frankie Says...!

Permanent Waves ! I think only Gabriel came out of that decade with any respect from me . All my heroes turned into zero`s Yep . Even Bowie wen`t down that horrid road . Let`s Dance . I did "like" it but it was`nt an album that had me rushing to get Tour tickets .

You see Mr Kite, I can't concede defeat in any way because I don't recognise the '80's you show us. My '80's was different and I invite you to share some of it with me. I didn't list ONE dire album in my first list (in my opinion).
A couple more '80's peaks Dire Straits The Cult
'70's lows Black Sabbath - Technical Ecstasy/Never Say Die The Who - Face Dances Richard Nixon Bell bottoms Chicago after 1976 Rod Stewart after 1976
'80's highs The Cult - Electric Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell/ Mob Rules/ Born Again King Crimson - Discipline/Three Of A Perfect Pair/Beat
and all the stuff listed at the top of the page. I think opinions and tastes come into it a bit don't you think?
Really, I have to ignore the short shorts and the bell bottoms in order to apreciate either the '70's or the '80's and I get along just fine.

Here's some more of my favorite '80's albums: and I'm ALMOST certain that I'm not a douchebag (well maybe a bit)
Depeche Mode - Black Celebration The Cure - Pornography OMD - The Pacific Age Skinny Puppy - Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels Julian Cope - My Nation Underground Sinead O'Connor - The Lion And The Cobra Negativland - Helter Stupid
Anyway I have to concede that while I was living through the '80's, I noticed it was a very ugly decade on the surface. In the middle of the road. So I headed for the ditch and brought back some artifacts for friends who felt the same as me. Thus: my list of '80's faves.

Don't laugh. I'm in a 80's cover band. We play stuff like Wham, Irene Cara, Spandau Ballet and Simple Minds. We have a gig twice a month and the reactions of the crowd are usually very very good. We realise that might be because everybody understands that it's an evening for a laugh, full of songs you don't really want to hear again.

Face Dances - The Who . 1981 . Amadeus . You see , we agree it`s bad . I would love to know where it all went wrong ? The 70`s did nt end to well, we lost Keith Moon , Bonzo and of course John Lennon ... In The 80`s Punk Rock to some set the rot in I guess as you did nt have to have talent to make records anymore . This followed on through the 80`s What the hell happened to Rock ? I bring this piece of evidence to the Jury . Warning Well , it`s one of a sick bucket reaching Video with permed hair and stupid guitar posing and the Satan`s scarf wearing Coverdale . He sold his sole alright . I hope he enjoys his afterlife in Hell sat next to Collins when he finally meets his maker .

Well I don't know about Phil (the devil) Collins being in hell with Peter (godlike) Gabriel watching from on high but '80's Whitesnake???
I keep telling you, all the dross and crap isn't what my '80's was like.
Here's some more of mine: (btw, Nick Cave going to heaven? To preside over Coverdale?)
