Well,,,, All the obvious names will be snapped up in short order so I'm gonna go for the less obvious. It's sort of a cross between the artist and the importance of the song itself: Ike Turner & His Rhythm Kings - " Rocket 88" - for being recognised as arguably the first rock and roll record. Why? because the guitar is distorted! Elvis - " That's Alright Mama" - For being the first at the time to be recognised as something different from all the other r&b records. rock and Roll! Johnny Cash - " Get Rhythm" - another early shot. Just because I like it. Dean Carter - " Jailhouse Rock" - because it's the version Elvis WISHED he had done! I know I'll get my ears slashed but I'll pick this one, recorded four years before 'Rocket 88'(1951). Another early song was "Rock This Joint" first recorded in 1949. And then recorded by Bill Haley two years later. After that the gates were open....kids wanted their own music! They just didn't have a name for it yet and called it R&B (rhythm and blues). BTW 'Kansas City' is probably the oldest r&b song that the Beatles did, written in 1952 when Paul was ten!

If you want to go back even further, to 1941, this could be one, but they called it Big Band or Boogie records back then.

Blimey , we are going to need some kinda rules , or this could be going on longer than the bobbins one they have in the U.S. Yeah we might have to do it by decades. 1950's - 1960's - 1970's etc. Question has just entered my mind: Who would be your latest (newest) artist to enter the Hall? I think my choice would be Joe Bonamassa. I can see him being around for a long time.

I like your pick of Adele as a newest member pothos. I think Elvis would have to be the 'first inductee', everything revolved around him.
