What also is a little amazing fact is that Mona Best was born in Delhi, India in 1924. Fate brought her to Liverpool as fate won her that horse race to win enough money to buy that house and open up a club. And another little trivia fact: Mona passed away on John & Sean's birthday - Oct. 9th, 1988!! She was 64.

Another Beatle link - Neil Aspinall had an affair with Mona Best with whom he had a son, Roag Best.

Not sure when Pete Best was born, but if Mona was born in 1924, she must have been a teenager when Pete was born.

Another little trivia moment: Mona's father was a well decorated soldier in the India army. And although she never forgave the Beatles & Brian for dumping her boy Pete, she did lend John her father's metals for the Sgt. Peppers shoot. Although they are covered by Ringo's arm on the front cover, on the back cover and insert that comes with the lp you can see them.

The Casbah offers fantastic tours around the cellar of 8 Haymans Green, West Derby. The rooms are in pristine condition and show wall and ceiling decorations, some done by George, John and Paul. The actual coffee bar has a silhouette of John done by Cynthia, and the whole place is evocative of the 1950's. It's an amazing place full of atmosphere and 'ghosts'. Upstairs is the former home of the Bests, and there's a recording studio there now, and the bedrooms have been converted into flats. If you ever happen to be in Liverpool, it's definately worth a visit if you want to 'feel' how it was in the early days of the Beatles before they hit the big time.

The photographs are superb. We once spent an evening in the club about 10 years ago, courtesy of the Pete Best Band who were there with their sponsor Iceland Air. The rooms are exactly as you see them, the artwork is all preserved. In the Rainbow room, which is really just a very narrow corridor, the photograph you see of Paul and John performing with Ken Browne, there is also in the photo a dark haired Cynthia who is out of shot. She apparently used to stand in front of the band with a microphone taped to a broom handle for the boys to sing in!

And one photo of the Casbah guitar that John & George supposedly used when they were there. A newspaper clipping from opening nite Sat. Aug.29,1959, with a few spelling errors.
