Don't you guys over there drink something called a Black and Tan, Guinness and Harp or something. I'd remember, but I can't, something to do with having too many of them, I'd recall (if I could )

There's all kinda weird drinks people drink over here (I'm a barmaid so i'm the poor sucker who has to try to mix the Smirnoff ice with the Guiness or Blue WKD with the stella)
Anyways as this is a Stu thread and i'm too tired to find one relating specifically to his art just want to say how fabulous the Exhibition catalog for the Exhibition at the Liverpool University museum/gallery is. (mine arrived in the post today and i've not been able to put it down)

I'm a bit too young (honest!) to remember "Black and Tan" and "Guinness and Harp"! I do recall "mild" - but that died out in the Seventies, WAY defore my drinking days began! I can back you up on those weird drinks though Alix! By the way, are you planning on seeing the Stuart Sutcliffe exhibition, Alix? I wonder if Nowhere Man has seen it, as he's an artsy Beatle fan!

saw the exhibition when i was in liddy for BW which was when i preordered my catalogue. Staggered there on the wednesday morning and watched the flatbed lorries with SuperLambBananas drive past on the walk up there.
FABULOUS exhibition with a broad range of Stu's work, from early Art college pencil studies to one of the Hamburg era 'red series'. Plus contextual artifacts like the bass guitar that Rod was making before Stu won the John Moores prize.
If you've even the slightest interest in British 20th century art or Stu then you really need to see this exhibition. Or if you just wanna know how those paintings from Backbeat really looked.
Its a free exhibition so all it'll cost is a trip to Liverpool or combine it with your next Merseyside visit as its on until end of january i think.
& at the moment the Queen Mother(gawd bless 'er soul)'s graduation robes are on display at the end of the main foyer.
Its a beautiful building wish i'd ahd more time to look around the rest of the museum, but two of our group had trains to catch and me and another friend wanted brekkie from the Pilgrim.

Excellent - thanks for the info Alix! Sadly, I missed my chance to see this in Liverpool this year due to the Beatle Week madness!! Way too much to see and do and drink in such a short space of time!!

know the feeling!
it also didn't open until part way thru the week. It was an effort (& well worth it i might add!) to wake up on the wednesday morning to do it - normally i'm unconcious til 4 in the afternoon that day!
after Pilgrim i did go back to the Unite flat and collapse on the sofas in the kitchen til Thursday morning.

and yet another..... Interesting that there's TWO bass players in the band at this point! I thought that Paul didn't get a bass until after Stu quit. Unless they asked him to pose in the picture after the fact. Any takers?

That's a very interesting pic. Paul got his Hofner in Apr.'61 and Stu left about the same time so that has to one of the last pics with Stu as a Beatle. I think even Stu let Paul use his bass for awhile until Paul found his Hofner, but no pics exsist of Paul using it. Paul even used John's Club 40 for awhile. BTW that's the Hofner that was stolen in '69 during Let It Be wasn't it? And when are you going to give it back Amadeus?

Yes, that's the one. And it occupies a very special place in my collection along with John's 'sonic blue' and the Gibson acoustic.

here's a good one: George's 'real' Futurama was given by him for a raffle in a music magazine in '64. And get this, the winner said he didn't want the guitar and took a petty money prize! The guitar was kept by the publisher of the mag, Sean O'Mahoney and he still has it today!!

I think it would be cool to show up at a gig with one of those old cheap guitars while everyone else is strumming their Fenders/Sqiers, Gibson/Epiphones, Ibanez's etc. Playing some Pink Floyd on a Futurama or Club 40.

How 'bout Gilmour on the Futurama doing '3 Cool Cats' and then Hank Marvin on the Club 40 doing 'Cry For A Shadow'. ha-ha-ha
