There was a clip on YouTube a few years back of me totally stacking it on my arse at the end of Twist and Shout during Beatle Week - luckily it seems to have disappeared now! So it seems you're in very good company Sheepdog - one of the highlights of the weekend... along with the Loco-motion! Heehee Lol! I am going to make it my mission to find that clip on YouTube!

After watching a report on local news about an old riverboat being renovated, it suddenly occurred to me that if the Boat we boarded at the 02 had turned right instead of left and headed toward the Thames Barrier, we would have passed the sad sight of the now defunct MV Royal Iris which I understand has been moored there since 2002. I find it hard to believe such an important piece of Merseybeat/ Beatle history has been forgotten about and left to waste away so far from its spiritual home on the Mersey. Any thoughts?

I used to have a few nights out on the Royal Iris when I was a lad. Odd really as it wouldn't happen now as there would be too many drownings!
I agree. If they where going to lay it to rest somewhere, why not the Mersey? People could have visited it and I'm sure it would have been popular. Another opportunity wasted to preserve Liverpool heritage.

It would've been great to see it overhauled and restored to its original state, or at least to how it looked during the Riverboat shuffle days back in the Merseybeat era. Like you Said Mr M, another opportunity wasted!

The Royal Iris the Echo article talks about is not the original Royal Iris which is indeed rotting away in London. There is (or was) a group on Facebook called "Bring The Royal Iris back to the Mersey" (or something along those lines).
The boat that was being MOT'd in Cammell Laird has been in service as a ferry for the last 10/15 years.
