I recall waking up to the news and getting ready for school in a state of disbelief. I was only in my early teens but even then I knew something monumental and utterly horrific had happened. Everybody I knew was either upset or incredibly angry by the events. I also remember Paul sort of getting hammered for his comment at the news after reported cornered him for a quote but I thought he looked shocked to the point of being ill and not knowing what time of day it was let alone making a coherent statement. Still etched in my memory all those years on.

I found out the next day. I was 13. I went to school not having listened to the news that morning (as if I was interested at 13) and this idiot who was unfortunately my friend bounced up to me and chirped: "So the leader of The Beatles was killed last night huh?" Because he was actually an idiot who would say idiotic things because he was an idiot, I didn't believe him until everybody else mentioned it (with an appropriate amount of respect) and then we had months of non-stop Beatles/Lennon music on the radio and TV. Surreal. I was only 13. The death of Kurt Cobain had more of an effect on me, I guess because I was older, in fact, the same age. A violent way to have it all end. For both of them.

Still after all these years feels utterly unreal. I agree. When I see John in any of those old pics of him as a Beatle, it's hard to realize this guy is going to die on a street in NYC!

Around that time I vividly remember 'Double Fantasy' getting played non-stop on our record player at home, but as a 6 year old I wasn't aware of the enormity of what had happened, I did however pick up on the melancholy atmosphere which seemed to hang around for quite a while after that and ever since then, whenever I hear '(just like) starting over' or 'Woman' it always takes me back to that very sad time.

That's just totally bizarre! It's like an alternative reality universe! I think if the parole board read this article then his current residential status will be firmly secure for the rest of his natural life.

Well, you know, I just killed your wife but when you get over it, I'm sure you'd really like me. Right?

Still feels as shocking as it did all those years ago. He deserved to grow older, he was the voice missing at Live Aid, his message off peace is more relevant today than ever. Like I mentioned an another thread. The older I get the less I understand.

Talk about shocking pothos. This picture is amazing. It was taken on Dec.9,1961,19 years before on the exact day John was killed. It was taken at The Palais Ballroom in Aldershot. Only 18 people showed up (13 of them are in this photo)! And if you think about all the fame, all the sold out concerts, and all the struggles that happened to John in just those short 19 years from this little concert to that street in NYC it just boggles the mind!

That IS an interesting picture, ROCKY. If it had been just a year or two later, who knows how many would've shown up!
