I saw Lou Reed perform 'Jealous Guy' and also 'Mother' at the John Lennon concert in Liverpool in 1990, and if I remember rightly I think he was booed by a small minority. That said, they were probably there to see Kylie or Wet Wet Wet and probably weren't prepared for his unique delivery!

I saw that when it aired.
Lots of people are gonna start coming out of the woodwork, singing Lou's praises, just to gain a bit of street cred. when all they really know is 'Walk On The Wild Side' and maybe 'Sweet Jane'. (The Velvets version is better). And they're all gonna say that they either bought the debut Velvets album or, if they're younger, own one and it can't be true. Bowie said that everyone who bought the 500 records that did sell, formed a band.
My introduction to Lou Reed was 'White Light/White Heat'. So badly produced that it was great. The next album I got was 'Songs For Drella' I really liked that one. The first solo album of his I got was 'The Blue Mask', because I heard 'The Day John Kennedy Died' on the radio (!) and needed to have that album based on that song. It's a great album.
So,,,,,I have all the Velvets albums including 'Squeeze' (is it really a Velvets album?), in that 5 CD box set that also include loads of unused songs. I have the 3 CD Lou Reed box set, 'Berlin' and 'Metal Machine Music, and I can proudly say that I've listened to MMM in it's entirety!
