I got it today and must say it is very, very good - the most consistent album I have heard in many years... probably not since Flaming Pie or even before then! Anyone else got it? What do you think? AL

That's funny because I thought flaming pie was 50 to 60 percent wonderful.
The problem with being a Beatles fan is that one tends to live in the past a bit and everything that comes out now is always compared to that past we're so fond of dwelling in. Is it as good as band on the run? I really don't know. (can't wait to review that album).
At any rate, I'll give it a few spins to try and get to know it on it's own merits. Ironically, I also tend to judge it a bit harshly if it resembles the past too much. So what do I expect from a new Macca album? A certain amount of progress in the sound and a damn catchy melody or two.

Well here's my exclusive review of Sir Paul's new CD! And it's been the same review I've been writing for every one of his new releases since I think 1973.
You'd think that people would have enough of silly love songs, but I look around me and I see it isn't so. Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs and what's wrong with that? I'd like to know, because here we go again.

I need to be locked in a room without access to music for about a week . Then givin my I pod with just Macca`s new album New and then I would listen to it and then I will be able to give my opinion on it . I know I sound negative and should`nt feel that way but I do . It`s my honest opinion of Macca`s recordings for the last 20 years have meant to me. Take Driving Rain . I could`nt even name a track off it . I did`nt like Off The Ground very much and as for his last album I could`nt bear to here it , even though I have it (no I did`nt buy it ) That`s just how I feel about Macca . I am just the same with other artists I admire , Dylan , Young , and many other artists that I think have not got that edge or hunger any more . Take Ram or even Wild Life I still play them regular and enjoy them as much as I did when I first heard them . This is how I want to remember Macca when he had a point to prove .
I think it`s great that Macca is still recording and he still has the enjoyment of Recording and touring . But I will stick with Macca that turned me onto The Beatles and I never looked back .

Personally speaking, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a new Macca album as much as I do this one!

I've read a lot of excellent reviews on this and not just Al's (speaking of reviews, where's your Help review Alan?!!)
Based on the single release and the reviews it's got to be worth parting with my hard earned cash for it! I do agree that McCartneys entire solo output is patchy to say the least. Some great songs here and there but very patchy. Press To Play - how bad was that!!
Looking forward to hearing this though!

It's growing on me. But it's still hard to judge it. Would I be interested if it was a new artist?
BTW, is 'Early Years' another shot in the 'I was there, you weren't' war against the revisionist historians?

Got this today. There's some really good songs on it. Early Years is a good song but perhaps slightly let down with the sentiment of the lyric. I need to digest the album more. My initial impression is one I've had before; he's trying to be too contemporary and compete. The Beatles never competed. They absorbed influences and broke musical boundaries. Have all the great songs been written anyway?

I just got the deluxe version and listened to it once through on my way to work. I think its awful. 'Save Us' is the best song by far. Way too much effects and electronic stuff. Album takes a dive from about song 7 on. Speaking of song 7 'Appreciate' and 'Hosanna' are truly horrid. I wanted to like this album a lot and was very excitied for it, but it just isnt happening. Its like McCartney 2 part 2 and thats not a good thing. I thought 'Memory Almost Full' stunk, but i'll gladly take that over this one. Shame. Looks like 'Chaos and Creation' might be his last great one. There's just nothing memorable at all on this new record.
I'm bumed.

True, but usually something jumps out at you when you find a record enjoyable. There's nothing here so far. The CD wont leave the player until it gets another 4 or 5 go arounds, but i'm really not looking forward to hearing it again. Never know though.

I had to fix a typo also. I typed 'Apprentice' instead of 'Appreciate'. Must of been thinking about Donald Trump. Lol

Always interesting to hear other people's opinions, and much like you TK, an album has to grab me with the first listen, and most of Macca's more recent albums have just had that one play through - but, for me, this one WAS instant - and I've since played it many times since. Totally understand if it's not for you, but I think it's a very good album It's also riding VERY high in the UK album chart at the moment - not that that should ever be considered an indication of a good album... just look at how many XFactor artists have achieved chart success!!

Yeah, I think i'm in the minority on this one Al. I gave it 3 more listens today all the way through and it hasent aged well. i'm done with it. I like 'Save Us' and 'Everybody Out There' is an ok song with lousy lyrics. The rest is forgettable. Unfortunately, its time to retire this one, so to the dusty depths it goes right alongside McCartney 2, Pipes Of Peace, Fireman projects, and Kisses On The Bottom. I think the only time i'll ever listen to it again is if I need to review it properly.
Glad everyone else seems to like it though.

I just thought of what this album reminds me of. To me, it sounds like a bad Stone Roses record. There's just too much studio junk for me. I like Paul a bit more stripped down I think. Mr.M said it perfectly before in this thread, too contemporary. God bless him for trying to keep up with the times, but it doesnt always work for everybody. He's one of them.

I would love hear Paul do a completely stripped down album. Just him singing live with an acoustic guitar or piano. Like the album Johnny Cash did before he died.

CD is still in the car since I had to work again today. I think 'Road' might be the best song on the album now.

Do you think if Sir Paul would have gone out on tour and just played the songs on this album (and no Beatle tunes or past songs)that he would have sold out any venues?
