Pointless opinion topic ahead...
Of the four Double A-Side singles, which single from each do you mentally place on the A-Side?
I'll start with the most important placement to me, and that's Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever. Those are two songs that should never be played separately and I ALWAYS play Strawberry Fields first. Penny Lane will always be the B-Side to me, mainly because it ends on a more upbeat note and I like that.
Day Tripper is also always played first for me. We Can Work it Out has never been one of my favorites. I've always been surprised that those two songs were not included on the American version of Rubber Soul instead of the two songs from Help! since every "Dexterized" American album had a single on it except that one.
Something and Come Together are the easiest ones to place because Something is on the "Whole Apple" A-Side of the record and Come Together is on the "Half Apple" B-side.
For Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine's placement, I usually could care less.
It is interesting to note how inconsistently these tracks are officially placed...
Wikipedia's Beatles Discography page places the higher charting song (in America) first except for Something and Come Together (which incorrectly states that Something only reached #3 on the U.S. charts). So it looks like this:
We Can Work it Out (#1)
Day Tripper (#5)
Yellow Submarine (#2)
Eleanor Rigby (#11)
Penny Lane (#1)
Strawberry Fields Forever (#8)
Something (#3)
Come Together (#1)
On the Red and Blue albums, We Can Work it Out, Eleanor Rigby, Strawberry Fields Forever, and Come Together all come first.
Another oddity is that Here Comes The Sun is before both Come Together and Something even though on the Red Album, all songs that were released from the album came before the ones that weren't released. Here Comes The Sun was released in Japan, but if they were using that as a reference, Oh! Darling would have been included too instead of Octopus's Garden.
On the 1 album it's the exact opposite, Day Tripper, Yellow Submarine, and Something all come first and Strawberry Fields was not included at all because it did not reach #1 on either of the respective charts they were referencing for that compilation.
As an aside, some say that Get Back and Don't Let Me Down were a Double A-Side but Don't Let Me Down did not chart in the UK so that is false.
