I've mentioned some of these in other threads, but here's the main list of gigs I can recall attending.... Lonnie Donegan, Liverpool Empire about 1959 The Shadows, Liverpool Empire April 1962. I remember thinking that Jet Harris looked very different on stage, than on TV. It turned out that he had left the group that week, and was replaced by Brian Locking. Cavern club, most top Liverpool groups [Searchers, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Merseybeats etc] but not, sadly, the Beatles. Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Kingsize Taylor, the Animals, Odeon Liverpool, 1964. Fabulous show. The Animals played "House of the Rising Sun" and I knew it would be a big hit. Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Top Rank, Liverpool David Bowie [as "Ziggy Stardust"] Top Rank. Roy Orbison, Shakespeare Club, Liverpool Del Shannon, Top Rank Wilson Pickett, Top Rank Elton John, Wembley, about 1976 Abba, Wembley about 1977 Ltlle Richard, Olympia, Liverpool, about 2005

Impressive list! I'm surprised you didn't see Hendrix at the Liverpool Empire 1966/67 but perhaps he wasn't really your thing. However then I see you went to see ELP! That's a bit left field in that list!

I quite liked ELP and their forerunner The Nice. I was never a fan of Hendrix. Some of those gigs weren't my choice, I had to attend. The Chuck Berry/Carl Perkins show was outstanding, as was Little Richard, still rockin' with a powerful voice in his seventies.

I too used to get FREE tickets from the record companies so I seen a ton of top acts in the late 60's/70's. I quit going in the 80's big hair bands. Never seen any of the grunge bands although I do like Nirvana, only because Kurt was a lefty. The last concert I went to see was Dick Dale a few years ago at a bar/lounge called The Diesel. I guess like seeing him at The Cavern. Here's a pic after the show. I was showing him my DD replica strat which he signed for me.

I like the Dick Dale records, always like good guitar stuff. Other people I've seen include Saxon, and, in Southport, Bad Manners as well as this young lady....

I am intrigued to know, Brewmaster, given you clearly like a bit of rock, why you are not keen on Hendrix. It's not a pre-requisite that everyone has to like him, just intrigued to know.

It's hard to say. I just never liked his music, and I didn't like his image either. I know he was a brilliant guitar player, just not for me.

Your video won't work for the USA fans brew.
And about artists you don't like...I know I hated the Rolling Stones after Brian Jones died and still do. lol

Hopefully, this will work...
I'm another one who doesn't like the Stones, always regarded them as imposters. Also, sacreligiously, I was never a fan of Elvis, Thinking about this thread has opened the depths of my memory, and I'd supressed ever seeing Andy Williams,Jason Donovan, Take That, FiveStar and Adam Ant. I saw Santana at the Budokan, Tokyo, but remember nothing at all about the show. A girl I saw doing live spots a couple of times was the delightful Rachel McFarlane.
It's strange how your tastes change. I was a big fan of ELP, but now wouldn't play their music. On the other hand, stuff I heard when growing up, which I later rebelled against as a teenager, I've come to appreciate. On this computer I have a large collection of tunes ranging from "Some Enchanted Evening" by Mantovani, to "Silence" by Delerium. I really believe there is no "bad" music [well, maybe rap] just stuff you like and stuff you don't like..... and your likes/dislikes can change over the years.

I am intrigued at you seeing pop acts such as Sabrina and Five Star. Was Adam Ant solo at the time you saw him. Also did you ever see any of the second wave Liverpool bands such as OMD and Wah.

It was a solo appearence, in 1983, basically as his career was about to crash. As mentioned earlier some of those acts [Jason Donovan, Take That etc] were not by choice. I never saw that second wave [the "Erics" acts] but have a couple of OMD and Echo & Bunneymen tracks.

As an aside, did you know Adam Ants mum was Paul McCartneys cleaner at his house in Cavendish avenue, London? Stuart went there quite a few times and I think went in Paul's music room too. He also got an album signed by Paul if I remember rightly. It's all in his autobiography anyway.

Not sure Rocky but I doubt it as we are talking about 1968 here. I think Paul wanted her to go to Scotland with him but she didn't want to leave London. The book implies they left on amicable terms but try it was written by her son! I will re-check and let you know.

I've always found that girls/women like that you would think would be naughty are really down to earth and wholesome. It's the ones that go to church, don't smoke, swear, and are squeaky clean that you gotta look out for.
