Well, if anyone checked out my post in the "welcome" forum,
My name is Duke, I'm a 22 year old college student living in Michigan, with a love of the Beatles for quite some time. I'm new to this forum, and loving it so far! I'm quite familiar with a lot of the Beatles work (and now am getting immersed into Johns).
I think it started when I was around 11 or so, and my mom took me to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio to see "Lennon: His Life and Work". When I got to the final floor, and saw both the bag of clothes and his glasses from the night of his murder, I knew that there was something ungodly unique about this man. And since then, I stayed a fan of his, and the Beatles, from the side. Never getting fully immersed.
That being said, I LOVE learning the history behind someone. This is where all you wonderful people come in.
I haven't picked up any Beatles books, and my liking of John is starting to take over. I've been a "mild fan" of his for quite some time, knowing a few of his "major hits" and learning tidbits about him here and there. IE: I've researched the night of his murder rather extensively, watched the documentaries, read reports, etc.
So now that my obsession is starting to take effect, I'd like to get a good "starter" book to John's life. And I figured this is where you guys (and gals) could give me a hand! I'd love a good biography of him that is honest, unbiased (as can be) and interesting. I hear there's a number of Lennon biographies, though biased. I'm trying to avoid this, and am placing some form of trust into you people
I recently was given The Lennon Letter collection as a Christmas gift, and haven't had much of a chance to read it yet. I also got a Lennon picture-like book from Barnes and Noble a while back (again...college student, SO much to read as it is, but I want to get on this!) I've begun to take an interest in his artwork as well (hence my avatar).
I now have an entire wall in my office dedicated to images of him, his dream of peace, and his artwork. And I might have thrown the Double Fantasy album cover up there as well
Speaking of which- I'm pretty sure I'm getting the John Lennon Signature Box Set for my birthday Can't wait!
So, educate me people! I'm putty within your Lennon-like hands!
Cheers!
