Two bands that don't exist anymore. But I still think we recorded some great tunes in the eighties.... Opinions anyone?
This is a song called Empty Glasses. It's not me singing, but my mate Eddy. I'm providing harmonies and guitar.

This is from the early 80's. Politically engaged and of course (as it was fashionable) kicking against Reagan. Haha! Surely the lyrics are not correct English. It's me singing. I suffered from a terrible cold. I even remember it! There is a video of this song as well, but I'm not sure if I have it somewhere.

Thanks. I like it too. Fact is that Crowded House did not even exist by then! They were probably still involved in Split Enz when we recorded this song.

Blimey, it was THAT early! I bought a Split Enz track when I was a kid - "I Got You". I've still got it!

Split Enz got some nice tunes! Empty Glasses dates from around 1982 or 1983. The other song I posted is from 81 or 82.

I watched Splitz Enz's first ever appearance (on TV) and saw them live many times. They had an outrageous stage act and sounded a lot like Genesis. When Neil Finn joined they dropped the wierdness, got a more mainstream sound and had some success. Ex members formed some of NZ's/Oz most memorable bands of the time: Citizen band (sponsored by Citizen watches!) and The swingers. (if you come across it check out their single Counting The Beat. A classic piece of quirky pop) and of course Crowded House.

I still love Message To My Girl and History Never Repeats. Together with I Hope I Never these were the biggest over here. Crowded House was better known and Neil Finn solo managed to sell out in Amsterdam a couple of years ago.

Someone else I'm really into from NZ is Bic Runga - anyone heard of her?

I'll try and sort out for tonight. And another really good NZ band are Marshmallow. I'll sort one of their tracks out tonight too... if I remember!

Never met him though.
