I'm quite certain I've bought a counterfeit of the "Hollywood Bowl" album on CD. Got it from Amazon.com, and it was made to look like a Japanese release. It's in a mini LP gatefold cover. All the Capitol and EMI logos are here, as well as an OBI sheet. The CD itself hasn't got the Capitol or EMI logos, but it is inside of a paper sleeve that reproduces the HB inner sleeve perfectly. There are no bonus tracks. Only the 13 tracks that made up the original album. The cover is an exact replica of the original album, right down to George Martin's essay on the back. The mini LP cover is slightly taller than my other CDs.
I had a hunch it wasn't legit when I ordered it, but this will do until EMI releases an official one. I'm not holding my breath.
The sound quality seems to be pretty much what I remembered from the vinyl album. I'm satisfied with it...
Anyone else have this?

There's also a lyric sheet inside. It's in black & white, and it's folded. Lyrics are in English. There's a lot of Japanese writing that I can't read!!

Bootleg (probably) or not - sounds like a good buy! Does it sound like it's been copied from the vinyl version?

There's so much crowd noise on it that I really can't hear if there's vinyl noises on it. If it's a CD of a vinyl disk they had to have chosen a very nice pressing.
Upon hearing this again for the first time in years, it's interesting how far technology has progressed. Imagine if The Beatles had access to modern day amplification equipment. Their live appearances would have been incredible. They might have continued touring past "Revolver"...

Yeah, but would they have toured after their experience in the Philippines with Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos? One source says that they were separated from their "stash" and could possibly had their hands cut off if the stash had been discovered.

I would not have enjoyed hearing them playing without hands.

Oh you're so right. It just wouldn't have worked at all. SO right.

Allegedly, only John gave approval for the original release. The others didn't and never liked it which could explain why it's not released on CD.

I remember reading that when the LP originally came out - there was a headline in the Melody Maker (or NME or something!) that read "There's a Gold in Yesterday But Only Lennon Wants It" - God knows why that should have stuck with me all these years - I must have only been about 10 years-old at the time!!
