For me, it's two songs from the White Album that jar slightly... Firstly: "You were in a car crash, and you lost your hair" from Don't Pass Me By. Secondly: "Her name was McGill, and she called herself Lill, but everyone knew her as Nancy" from Rocky Raccoon. What are yours? AL

Tricky question. I'm personally not a fan of 'love song' lyrics so those lyrics that you quoted are kind of a quirky change. Almost Morrissey like. Me likes them. However, for the worst of the "I love you" lyrics ever,: "I Wanna Be Your man". I believe that absolutely NO thought went into the words for that song. Or the music for that matter

Believe it or not it`s
Late of Pablo Fanques' fair, what a scene
From A Being For The Benefit Mr Kite A nightmare to sing a long to.
And Cry Baby Cry . Duchess Of Kircaldy
Just when I singalong to them , not really dislike any lyrics come to think of it .

Well my pick of absolute drivel would be "a soap impression of his wife which he ate and donated to the national trust" and for my scraping the bottom of the lyric barrel i'd say "I've known a secret for a week or two, Nobody knows just we two"

I agree. I love the surrealness of the words. Like 'Dig A Pony' I rolled a stoney, where you can imitate everyone you know...

I have to say that I think this is a great line too. The visual imagery Lennon creates here is why he is such a highly regarded lyricist.

I can't stand to listen to this song: If you're listening to this song You may think think the chords are going wrong But they're not; we just wrote them like that... As it's only a Northern song.

Well I didn't say I disliked the song, because I don't. But as for the words, I don't think of them as a great imagination. Quite frankly they are absurd. Each to their own I guess

Each to their own I guess[/quote] The absurdity is what makes it a great lyric. Like Semolina Pilchard climbing up the Eiffel Tower. These are things that exist only in Lennons mind. We can't touch it and only through his words we see it. That's the brilliance right there that with a few words he can create such a clear image.

Can`t stand and asolute drivel !!! I am a bit shocked that these words are on the continent let alone on a Beatle Forum ! These are the songs that drew me into loving all that is Beatle . It`s Only A Northern Song . It is just the dry wit of George , and I love the song . I guess it`s all down to indivdual tastes . As for John. Anyone who might asked me why I think he is a genius . I would say I Am The Walrus .

Well maybe I look at things a bit differently to you, but I am still a Beatles fan. I don't look at any of them as Gods, they are men just like you and me. 4 extremely talented men of course, but they all had strengths and flaws like anyone else. I have met Paul McCartney once and I found the guy to be a bit up himself but I still like his music. As for the lyrics well you see them as imagination and I don't. Neither of us are right or wrong, it's just an opinion.

Neither of us are right or wrong, it's just an opinion. Of course it's all about opinions but I don't think anyone sees The Beatles as gods just because it's felt they have an exceptional gift. Let's face it, Lennon was a bit of bastard for a start. From a personal point of view, I have never wanted to be a Beatle or meet a Beatle. I don't know/knew them so I should have no expectation of greatness if I did meet them. I once met Denny Laine in a stairwell of the Adelphi hotel (The Sun King can vouch for this and I'm sure elaborate!). I don't know him so I had nothing to say to him. Not out of ignorance or being starstruck. I appreciate his musicianship but thats where our relationship ends. Same with The Beatles. To assume some people see them as gods would be wrong just because we dwell on their good points rather than their bad ones.

Yes I was with mrmustard on the stairwell with Laine. We left mrsmustard to do all the talking with Laine.Reminding him of his recently deceased wife etc. Denny seemed like a cool guy. He did co write Mull of Kintyre after all. The Beatles aren't Gods but there the most special and the most significant musical happening ever.

What always fascinated me is how in I Should Have Known Better, John Lennon repeated the same line "you're gonna say you love me too" and made it seem as if it was a rhyme and for years that did not dawn on me. I wonder if there's some technical word for that!
[edit] I looked it up, it's called (quite obviously really) identical rhyme!
He sort of did the same trick with Do You Want To Know A Secret rhyming two twice.

in She's a Woman
