I love the likes of The Overtures, Tearaways and The Sutcliffes. In fact, apart from Them Beatles, The Sutcliffes and Tearaways were my favourites this year. I'm one who likes a bit of a break from Beatles now and again. Luckily we are spoilt for choice and there is plenty to go around for all tastes.

Re The Tearaways.... must be an organisors dream for various reasons. And most definitely a bar owners dream!

I really like The Sutcliffes too however I prefer them in a smaller venue like the Cavern pub. For some reason they don't really translate to a bigger stage like the Adelphi as well.

I think they would have been great in The Crosby suite round 1pm to get the Sunday off to a flier what with energy and so forth.

I want to cover a couple points running through this thread, so bear with me. 1. NON BEATLES BANDS: I would deffo keep the 'non-Beatle' bands in, The Overtures have long been a favourite, their Live in Sweden CD is one of my most played, and personally I love The Rockets AND The Rockits, and I would love to see Mad Dogs back, and one of my favourite non-Beatle bands of all time are Dios Salve De La Reina.. (Happy B'Day Freddie) Of course it goes without saying that if that is not your thing then fine, there are plenty of pure Beatle Bands to satisfy you, you dont need to listen to anything else.
2. OFFENSIVE REMARKS: I dont agree that it is OK to be offensive to The Overtures or any other performers, freedom of speech is of course the basis of any democracy, but it doesn't hurt to be polite! The Tearaways are of course posers, but all perfomers are, they have to be to get up on stage night after night, and I for one wouldnt want them any other way, I expect to see California Dudes wearing dark shades, its all part of the act, just part of who they are, I don't really care what a band wears or if they are a bit up themselves (not that I'm saying these bands are, I actually find them quite the opposite) all I want them to do is to play me the kind of music that I love, as well as they can, in their own style or the style of the original band, whatever they choose, just as long as they remember ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.
3. I think the Adelphi main stage on Convention day has lost it's way, I really want to see the bigger bands there, or a themed show (remember the year they did every album...all day? Magic!) I also would MUCH prefer the interviews to be done in a more intimate setting, the Video room would have been much better employed that way in my opinion.
4. My own gripe....PLEASE PLEASE CCT and Adelphi, remember that by Convention day we are all knackered and need somewhere comfy to sit, BRING BACK THE SOFAS!!!!
5. On a positive front, I loved seeing Bob Barty and Marcus and the band back, and also Ringer and some other oldies, made me feel right back at home, and I cant wait until next year!
Love'n'hugs......Pat (Newly minted Silver Fox!)

OFFENSIVE REMARKS:
I don’t think there is any point keep going over points that were quantified in previous responses, but just to clarify; some of the comments made were meant as a wind up for me – Mr Mustard and I have been bantering about this for many years since he asked me who I thought the best band was at Beatle Week and I said The Overtures, who only play a few Beatle songs.
As some of us are friends in real-life, sometimes we do have a bit of a banter on here and maybe we don’t always act as if we are posting on a public forum, for which I have already apologised and I reiterate - if offence was caused I sincerely apologise.

From what I've heard on the grapevine I think your wish may have come true regarding the album concerts on the main stage next year. And I totally agree about having the interviews in a more intimate setting, preferably away from the band stages so they are not interrupted every time the door is opened!

Too true! Notice that you are supposed to assume Ringo plays on the album when in fact he didn't. Also that comment about Epstein not giving Rory Storm a shot at fame because he didn't want any serious competition for The Beatles is just ridiculous. So Gerry and Cilla weren't serious competition? In the end they weren't. They all had a different take on what they wanted to achieve. Rory Storm would not have been any different a proposition than Gerry.

Too true! Notice that you are supposed to assume Ringo plays on the album when in fact he didn't. It's a bit more than an assumption, as it states that Starr joined in '59, and that the recording was made in March 1960. I'm sure there'll be a lot of people feeling ripped off if they figure out that it's not Ringo on there after buying it only for that reason. Caveat emptor!

To confuse matters further the cover features Ringo playing guitar. Maybe that's their way of admitting he's not actually playing the drums?

It's phrased in such a way that if someone took action against them after buying it they could easily deny it as they haven't actually stated it. Very bad.

Mr Mustard, you didnt offend me, you DID offend others, but I totally accept that this wasn't your attention, and I get that this was banter between you and another board member (that sounds funny when you say it out loud!) its just that not all of us know you both so well and may not have understood that, so yes I agree, all over now. I still love you all!
YAY! SOFAS!
YAY ALBUM GIGS! Beatles for Sale doing Beatles for Sale...REvolover doing....REVOLVER....ah yes, I can hear it now....see you all next year....

To confuse matters further the cover features Ringo playing guitar. Maybe that's their way of admitting he's not actually playing the drums? During the convention interviews, Iris Caldwell insisted it was Ringo on drums, but after she left the stage, Mark Lewisohn completely debunked any such suggestion as apparently Ringo was ill at the time of the recording.

I gather Iris Caldwell isn't that popular on the Forum.Who cares if she's trying to make a buck on her connections with the Beatles. Everyone else has been doing it for years. Including Lewisham who's been feeding off Hearsay for years. Did Ringo play drums on her CD. I'm sure Ringo would say he did,if it meant her making a few quid.

I don't mind people making a buck out The Beatles as long as they are being honest about it. I believe Iris isn't so then it's wrong.
