Any thoughts on what Paul will play at the opening ceremony of the Olympics?

I think Paul will be playing Get Back , Hey Jude , Hello Goodbye and probably Let em in , Band on the run and Mrs Vanderbilt. No matter what Paul Plays it will be really good. Got to love Sir Paul McCartney.

Wasn't there a big hullabaloo over how long he can be on? The Olympic Comm. doesn't want him to go over a certain time and may end his show early (?) And isn't Bruce going to be on there with him?

A little intro of The End and then Hey Jude. Was it worth setting up all the equiment? I think he just did enough . You have to really be kidding yourself to think Macca still has a voice for live gigs . Sorry Macca

His voice was great 10 or 12 years ago on the "Back In The USA" and the St. Petersburg videos. He sounded MUCH better than he did on the 1991 "Get Back" tour.
Am I right? He sounded really ragged. I haven't really heard him lately. It might be time to retire the live MEGA-shows?

I noticed his voice really sounding bad at the beginning of Hey Jude and afterward even Bob Costas made a remark that the magnatude of the Olympics made Sir Paul emotional. Hence his voice breaking up. But I do agree his voice through out the song was not up to par. Only when he starts sounding like Dylan, then I think he'll chuck it in.

Firstly, the mans 70 and singing a song he wrote 44 years ago so you can't realistically expect him to sing it as he use to b able to. Secondly, he always plays Hey Jude at the end of his show by which time his voice has warmed up. Barring The End, he was straight into this cold. No warm up whatsoever. Lastly, there was a problem at the beginning of the song but it was a weird delay. I thought at first it was some sort of backing tape but I think more likely the live sound and the delayed sound not synched (I could be wrong about this though). When I head it I immediately thought of Live Aid and McCartney being scuppered by another technicality on the world stage. Thankfully it got sorted out. So cut the guy some slack Rocky. He's not the singer he was but you have to accept that. I'd rather him play live until he drops dead than pack in because of some dodgy shows.

You know I was just thinking, Sir Paul should put out a CD compilation of all these special events that he has ever played!

I had arguments all day on Facebook on this and countered with the exact same points, Si! Funnily enough, I also said that they always seem to mess up Paul's sound balance on these big occasions, whereas the Arctic Monkey's sound was spot on! I do think though that these brief public appearances do his reputation no good in the eyes of the general public, as his voice doesn't get a chance to warm up properly. Whereas, over a complete set, which is normally over 2 and a half hours long (!!!!), he is simply awesome - sadly the casual armchair critic doesn't see that!

also i've heard on Facebook that when he was at the LIPA graduation two days prior his voice had been croaky when talking to students then - so whether he's had a bug or something.....

He seems to be generally croaky these days - he was the same on the Ronnie Wood show the other week. Also anyone notice his new teeth? I'm sure he's had them "done"!

Definite backing track malfunction! You could see the band all looking at each other like "Oh shite"

It was definitely NOT a backing track.
The problem seemed to be that the sound being broadcast through the main p.a. (and to TV viewers) was delayed by a few seconds for the first verse. If you watch it carefully, it is the broadcast sound that eventually catches up with Paul and the band, not that he had to get back in sync with a backing track.

I was speaking to someone who was a volunteer at the ceremony (he was one of the doves at the end) and he confirmed there was a twenty second delay broadcast delay throughout the ceremony until the end - and I'm guessing that's where the vocal audio was fed back in error at the start of Hey Jude.

Leo Sayer`s thoughts on Macca`s performance.
“Embarrassing. Hasn’t anybody got the bottle to tell him ‘Mate sorry,’ we all love you,’ but the voice is gone...

Leo Sayer - really good singer/songwriter in my opinion. Wrote a lot of songs for Roger Dalterys solo albums including Giving It All Away which was a big hit.
However, I would have thought Leo would have known better to judge somebody on one performance and then consign them to the bin. He is clearly a big Beatles fan as he's covered some of their songs. I Am The Walrus for one.
Definitely gone down in my estimation now.........tosser!
