This a top-notch band who recreate the fun and energy of the The Beatles' Hamburg and Cavern Club performances! They even recently resurrected the trend for all-nighters in The Cavern Club - complete with Danelectro guitars and pyjamas! I've seen them many times over the years and have never been disappointed - apart from this year when I missed the gig where they played the entire Star Club album! Gutted! www.theprellies.co.uk/

Wow, that version of Red Hot is amazing, I would love to see that live. Does someone start off in the wrong key at the beginning though? Not being critical

The Prellies' version of "Red Hot" - this really kicks ass live!!! Isn't there another line "Your girl ain't doodly-squat"? Maybe that's just Ry Cooder or something.

That recording I think is taken from our 3rd gig ever, way back in December 2002 and it's the first time we played that song too! It's very ramshackle and I think I can safely say the off key singing at the beginning is Trev's fault (Prellies guitarist). Anyway we're better at it these days, we've just not got round to re-recording it. It's a great song though, there are loads of different versions too and nearly all of them are ace! We have on occasion thrown the doodly squat line for variation but usually stick to the Beatles version from the Star Club. I managed to find a longer version of the Star Club recording of it recently but it's a FLAC file and I've not got any conversion software to turn it into an mp3. It's really interesting actually as, although it's definately the Beatles, there's also an organ playing on it! As soon as I can convert it I'll let you know.

WELCOME GAZ! I can vouch that Red Hot is even better nowadays as I've seen you guys MANY times at Beatle Week over the years and for me it's always a highlight as it is SO close to The Beatles'! By the way, by the miracle of science and technology you can now download the longer version of The Beatles' Red Hot from this very site! Here: beatleforum.proboards42.com/index.cgi?board=songs&action=display&thread=1201649519 (right click "save as" or something like that!) Once again, great to have you here! All the best AL

Oh nice one, thanks AL. Thanks for the kind words! And the mp3. And thanks Bobber for the FLAC converter. Any ideas where that longer version surfaced from? It's only appeared recently hasn't it? Do you think it's from the same set of tapes as the rest of the Star Club material. I'm guessing the organist would be Roy Young, who played in Tony Sheridan's band and with the Beatles at the Star Club, although it could be Sam Hardy from Kingsize Taylors band who pops up singing 'Sparkling Brown Eyes' with the rest of the Dominoes on a track that often gets listed as the Beatles in the Star Club set. www.royyoung.com/about.html
