This version of Long Tall Sally is awesome! It never occurred to me that it was Lennon that played the first solo after years of listening to this song so this is a bit of an epiphany for me. Lewisohn doesn't even mention this fact in The Recording Sessions. It's always been cited as a Harrison solo. It seems obvious now though.
Compare this to Wings with a 1973 version of Long Tall Sally. Instrumentally it doesn't touch The Beatles but McCartney's vocals are again excellent - a singer really on top of his game here.

Some Other Guy and Kansas City: GREAT STUFF!!! Did you notice that that that the version of Some Other Guy that you posted has a different audio track to the version I posted some months back? Here: beatleforum.proboards42.com/index.cgi?board=beatles&action=display&thread=433Although it sounds like the version you posted may have been speeded up a little, I'm pretty sure the audio track is from an entirely different performance of the song.

I added the alternate audio myself. The audio is from a recording done at the Cavern a few weeks after the film was made. The producer thought the film sound was too poor so sent a sound recordist down to get a better copy. He taped a whole set (!!) but says the tape was lost and only those two songs exist on acetate. The audio was never used, so I guess this is the first time the two have been seen together. You really wouldn't know though, would you? Glad people are enjoying these.

Hi, yes thanks for posting!!
I couldn't tell much about Ringo's drumming, what were you pointing out?
I know that performance was "canned", i.e., they mimed and the sound track wasn't what they played. I've got the VCR and on another song ("Twist and Shout"), John sang the wrong word at the wrong time, and looked really sheepish about it!

Yeah, from "Around The Beatles" - Funnily enough, I posted some details about it a couple of days ago, here: beatleforum.proboards42.com/index.cgi?board=requests&action=display&thread=797&page=1#6960

I cannot BELIEVE how great his voice is in the 70s here. It is every bit as good as it was in 62/63/64 when he sang it. Absolutely incredible. Thanks for posting this!!!

The Beatles 1964 Australian tour, with Jimmy Nicol as temporary stand-in drummer whilst Ringo was recovering from tonsilitis in London.
When Ringo rejoined the band a couple of days later, Jimmy returned to London and appeared a lonely figure at the airport with only Brian there to farewell him, presenting Jimmy with a cheque for 500 pounds and a gold watch. And this was only a couple of days after enduring the adulation of over 300,000 fans on the Adelaide motorcade (half of that city's total population).
Jimmy joined numerous bands in the 60's without any commercial success, became bankrupt in 1965, before moving to Mexico and doing odd jobs. He later returned to London and became a recluse. How the mighty can fall.

I just saw "Hey Bulldog", one of my favourite songs. Never saw the clip, but this clip is fantastic! They look good and seem to have a lot of fun! Great rock song, eh?
