Guess I'd post this here:
I found the clip where Paul DOES sing a line from the Weight. It's from the David Frost show performance. I don't know why when I read it they said "friends" but maybe there were people there that they knew or something. Anyway, when it's about 57 seconds left he sings: "Well take the load off her honey put the load on me!" So he got the words a little wrong, but that's The Weight alright! I don't know why, but I think that is SO cool. McCartney was just the coolest human alive at that point.
Here it is:

Haven't seen that for a long time. Funny that even though they've probably been rehearsed, 100 people can't keep time! Their Na Na Na Na's are completely out of sync with The Beatles Na Na Na Na's. You can really hear it as the song is fading out.

You can really hear it as the song is fading out. Yeah, that's pretty funny. I love this video. I love how John forgets to sing harmony on his first cue and when he sees Paul staring at him he just shrugs like oh well! Then when he remembers the second time Paul just cracks up. I also love John waving his arm at the end a couple of times as if to get the audience going. I love John Lennon. I love the connection he and Paul seemed to have too. Just like how they could communicate with certain facial expressions or eye movements. I just find that amazing.

Okay in this one he sings: "Take the load off fanny. Take the load off Fanny put it back on me!" So he's a little closer with the words this time. Maybe he says Fanny in the other one too, but it sounded like honey to me. Oh well. Why have I never noticed this before? Do they play this on Anthology? Sorry for the fascination, but I just think it's cool.

God damn there are some great Beatles videos on YouTube. I've gotta get up in five hours and I can't stop watching one after another. I need a 12 step program or something.

It seems to me that Paul gets the words right. To my ears he sings 'Take a load off Fanny, put the load on me' which are the correct lyrics. When you say it's the Frost video you must realise that there were several takes of the song combined for the show which was not live at all.On Anthology you also get a mixture of different takes. Some of the people on your video are not seen at all (like the man with the postman's hat).I'll check later though and I'll also watch your other Hey Jude video tomorrow.(Bedtime beckons...)

OK.I've watched Anthology Hey Jude with all those frustrating talkovers.Anyway, definitely no Weight on there. In your second youtube, like the first,it is perfectly clear that Paul is singing the Band. The amazing thing is that the Band's record had only come out a month or so earlier. The effect of that record and particularly The Weight was a real bombshell.

I didn't even think about the fact that the Band's album was so new! That's very interesting how quickly those bands all seemed to pick up on it and were so effected by it yet the Band is hardly ever talked about anymore as being such an influence. And Robbie Robertson's song writing skills go highly unlooked too. Or so it seems to me.
Wonder why they didn't put it in Anthology. That was a cool moment!

They could have put it on the album as a different fade out version! Anyway, yes indeed, Big Pink with this song on it came out on July 1st 1968 and Paul is singing here on 4th of September!
