Its 20 years ago today since Johnny Guitar Byrne passed away. A true leading light on the Liverpool music scene. Gone but not forgotten.

That's the show where Rory stripped and used the diving board to dive into the pool. All while wearing the gold lame shorts. I can dream about owning that poster.

I have read the figures from the medical review collected for the inquest. Rory had very low levels in his body and I think they were too quick to bring a verdict. One thing I noticed when reading of Rory's passing was that (remember this is 1972) inquest was held very fast (I believe less than a month). The perceived wisdom of the authorities was a suicide however the tox report was not available for weeks (compare how long the authorities took to collect the tox report and other information regarding the passing of George Michael which was just over 3 months. No inquest or funeral allowed until the reports were registered. Similar event with Amy Winehouse with a delay of 4 months until the verdict could be officially registered and by then the funeral and certificates for Rory had been issued and newspaper headlines written. When the tox came back it was well within medicinal guidelines in fact I found an article showing that we now in the UK have a higher recommended daily allowance of pain meds than in 1972 and yet he was still under the limit at that time.
Rory case would not play out in that fashion now the laws are way more stringent. The authorities made their minds up before the facts showed they were wrong and yet history keeps saying he was a suicide victim when he plainly was not.

I love images of Rory during his athletic career. Also anything with long hair. Love the image with his Mam and Dad in Amsterdam.

A few treasures unearthed by a gentleman named Mike Jones. Some images are now believed to be of 'The Raving Texans' The last image is totally new and looks as though it possibly could be from Feb 1959 - April 1959. Also looking at the image it could be from the Radio Luxemburg show called The Midnight Express. I think the line up is as follows; 1) Al Caldwell 2) Johnny Byrne 3) Reg Hales 4) Spud Ward 5) Paul Murphy 6) Roy Rich unknown instrument

The image with the piano onstage makes it look like a theatre venue rather than a cellar gig.

Notice Johnny traded guitars in the last pic. This was before Ringo joined in March 59.

I had not picked up on that. I still am fascinated that we have an image of the rare 6 person line up. Oh to have Rory's guitar.

I found this picture while searching through my old pictures of RSATH that I have saved. It was taken about the same time as the ones above. Johnny's guitar back then was a Hofner Aristone semi-acoustic. I tried to find a pic of Rory's guitar that iris had sold that we had on here but couldn't find it. Rory's old guitar was a Hofner Senator which he had modified into an electric. Similar to this one: Johnny's was very similar to this one:

if Rory would have lived he would be 81. I think he may have looked just like his father if he would have survived.
