I really like that McCoys track - Come On Let's Go, originally by Ritchie Valens. Is this the same McCoys who recorded Hang On Sloopy (written by Burt Berns who also wrote Twist And Shout).

Loved those tracks Cor!! Great footage of the Cavern too - is there a part 2? Anyone else downloaded these tracks? What do you think? I think the footage is a part of a documentary described on Bill Harry's site here: www.triumphpc.com/mersey-beat/a-z/beatcity.shtml

Johnny was a good guitarist, but he couldn't be placed in the same class as brilliant players like Colin Manley of the Remo Four or Brian Griffiths of the Big Three. He was certainly not in the class of Jimi Hendrix. It's very hard to define his style because no decent recordings exist. The recordings at the Rialto Ballroom for the 'This Is Mersey Beat' albums was primitive to say the least. Done on a mobile recording unit, with the eq

Hello Mr. Bill Harry, may I say that I am extremely honored as well to have you on this forum!!! TheEnd, some of the folks on the forum who may just be getting into the Beatles might not know enough about Bill Harry yet - one of John's best friends in Liverpool - maybe you can give a little primer? We love you Bill Harry

When I tried to get up to date on Johnny, something happened to stop me completing it. I was going to say that the equipment was in one room, the group in another, wires and leads were trailing along a hallway, so the recordings were quite primitive, but both albums made the charts. Johnny was certainly one of the good guys and there is only one member of the Hurricanes left alive - Lu Walters, who the Beatles backed on a recording in Hamburg.

Bill - Could you say a little more about this please? I only knew about the Beatles backing Tony Sheridan on a recording in Hamburg. Was Lu Walters part of Tony Sheridan's band, or are you referring to another recording from Hamburg that the Beatles played on

Lu was a member of Rory Storm & the Hurricanes. He had a good voice and sang on numbers such as 'Beautiful Dreamer'. When they went to the Kaiserkeller they were billed above the Beatles. Allan Williams was impressed with Lu's voice and offered to pay for him to record. He did this at the Akustik Studio, just a basic record-your-voice type place near the train station. He asked John, Paul and George to back him - but Pete Best went into town to buy some drumsticks, so he had the Hurricanes drummer, Ringo Starr, join them. So this was the very first time John, Paul, George and Ringo recorded together. The Beatles then asked Allan if they could make a record, but he refused to pay for it. I think it would have cost around ten pounds. An opportunity missed. If he was really their manager, he would have done it. There were a couple of discs made, all lost. Allan left his behind in a London pub years later.

If so, I hope you spread the word around a bit, the Beatles family would want to know! Such a shame the discs were lost Thanks for sharing this Bill - you are invaluable and wonderful!!
