Being one of the more 'mature' members of the forum, I remember distinctly hearing 'Love Me Do' on the radio (Radio Luxemburg if my memory serves me well) for the very first time. It was October 1962 and when I heard it, I liked it immediately. And because it was my first time ever hearing The Beatles, it was a fait accompli that 'Love Me Do' was the first Beatles song I ever liked.

This song was my first favorite. Stuck on the 'B' side of a single (Can't Buy Me Love) I must have played it a hundred times over and over! I still have the single after 50 years and it's still one of my top favorites by them.

It was "Love me do" At school we had started to become aware of the Beatles, and one of the guys brought the brand new record around to my house, and a few of us listened to that first record. Of course we also listened to the flip-side, and I now actually prefer "PS I Love You"

The first Beatles song I ever liked was the first Beatles song I ever heard: Day Tripper. (Of course, it helped that it was the first song on Pastmasters Vol. 2, the first album I ever heard. ) Day Tripper is still my favorite Beatles song (although Ticket to Ride knocked it down a notch for a few years) and is my namesake.

It was "Love me Do" A school friend was the first to buy a copy and he rushed around to my place, and a group of us listened to it over and over again. It's regarded now as a simple song, but to us it was different to what was being played on the radio at the time. There was a distinct pleasure in hearing each of the subsequent singles as they were released. "Please Please Me" just knocked us all out. It was common in pop music back then for a hit to be followed by a very similar tune. With the Beatles every song was completely different, and yet, immediately identifiable as The Beatles. I still remember hearing "She Loves you" for the first time. I'd heard nothing like it before, still a favourite.
