"Pepper" is genius. Don't mind it at all. I'll take 2, please. One mono, one stereo.

A lot of people say "Sgt. Pepper" was overrated.
But the term "overrated" is actually a silly concept. If someone thinks "Sgt. Pepper" is the absolute greatest recording on Earth they might think it is underrated. If they think "Sgt. Pepper" isn't so great they might think it's overrated. The use of the word overrated is overrated in my opinion. Music is subjective. All a matter of taste. I have a friend who absolutely loves Yoko Ono's music. He even has the "Ono Box" thing. In his opinion, almost everybody has underrated Yoko. I must admit, I find excuses to go home when he's in the Yoko mood!!!!

Masterpiece is an overused term to describe lots of albums but not in this case. Although have 2 CDs of this, normal and remastered, I bought the remastered vinyl which comes with the cut outs and more importantly notes from Beatles expert Mark Lewishohn on the recording sessions and the original track list that was meant for the album. Incredibly not only Strawberry Fields and Penny lane were recorded during this session but for me the better George Harrison song that George himself was rather dismissive of, Only A Northern Song was a potential inclusion on this album. I prefer this track to Within You Without you.

A ground breaking disc then and still is a bench mark for true creativity.

I have pondered for many many years about this album and I even think that it`s like when you have your first kiss or your first ...
The thing is Sgt Pepper I think the reason why I love Music so much more than I did after hearing it . I was into Music at a very early age I was given Hey Jude at 8 years old and a few Badfinger singles and even My Sweet Lord that I borrowed from my older brother .
Was this a platform for me when I heard my first Official Beatle album ? ( my first was 62/66 and then 67/70 ) I don`t think so . Nothing as far as I know prepared me for when I heard it .
I heard many albums since that first time I put on Sgt. Pepper but they never come close to the trip of the light fantastic that each song seems to take you to a place or a time , a soap opera , a place with news paper taxi`s and a circus and it all comes at you in under 40 minutes. For me its the greatest album ever made and ever will be . I gave up a search for an album that changed the way I looked at life like Pepper did a long time ago . I was so lucky that it so happens that the album was recorded by the greatest band of all time Not many things come in twos but this was one of them .
And just imagine if Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane could have been squeezed on the album !

Was thinking about the Mercury music prize yesterday and I wonder how many times The Beatles would have won it.

I can only imagine what it was like as a 16 or 17 year old hearing this for the first time, this was music from another planet. Did you know that when they finally recorded Sgt Pepper they rushed round to Mama Cass Elliot's flat in Chelsea, opened her windows and played the acetate at full volume in the early morning waking the neighbours. On completion of playing the album neighbours apparently gave a round of applause.

Why, yea of course. It was groundbreaking when to came out. Unlike some other groundbreaking works, it still holds up.

Back in 2016, Mr. Kite said "And just imagine if Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane could have been squeezed on the album "
If Dave Dexter had continued doing his thing with Beatle albums after 1966, he might have removed 5 cuts from Pepper and put "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" on the American Capitol Release, then taken the omitted 5 cuts, plus "All You Need Is Love" and "Baby You're a Rich Man," "Rain," "Paperback Writer," and "I'm Down" on an album released in late summer that year. Those single cuts had never appeared on an American album release.

Indeed they were. But my hypothetical Dexterization is released in late summer 1967, when those two cuts as yet had not been released on albums. MMT came out in late fall 1967.
