That teachers line reminds me of when Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer played two music teacher performing pop tunes. This was on Saturday Night Live.

Now as it so happens I don`t know many Teachers and at school , back in the 70`s I did`nt know any Teachers that liked Prog , as then it really was`nt a Genre , was it ? But it`s just funny how they seem to go hand in hand I went to a Rock Disco every Saturday night for about 7 years or so and it was held at a University in Manchester Now the Students I knew were all into Prog, "Rich" clever and all destined to be Teachers I went to see Riverside last Friday and it was on the same night as King Crimson who were playing just around the corner As I got to the Tram the Crimson audience were all piling on the Tram , and I`ll tell you , they all looked liked retired Teachers Someone ask a fellow Tram rider "Who`s been playing " "King Crimson " they replied "Who?" "There a Prog band , a bit like Pink Floyd " I kid you not ! Oh , and I did and probably still do know all the words to The Wall And I`m not a Teacher .

If prog really wasn't a genre in the '70s, I do remember the expression "Art-rock" being occasionally thrown around. Art-rock was a bit more broadly encompassing and might include Sgt. Pepper and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, as well as the Queen song "Bohemian Rhapsody."

When I ponder on it the first thing that I would consider as Prog that I heard was A Day In The Life and of course you have I Am The Walrus as I really think is a perfect Prog song When I heard Bohemian Rhapsody I would had thought Pop rock song Which it is a perfect Prog song under six minutes Without realising it in my later (15/17) teens I was buying up Prog albums A Farewell To Kings , all the Yes albums , and of course Pink Floyd and you could even say my first Prog band I got into E.L.O. Are 70`s Queen Prog ? That is a question My self I would have them as a easy listening Rock band (soft rock ) Is`nt Prog a wonderful genre

As far as "genres" go, I don't think most recording acts set out to be classified as this or that. I think most of them consider themselves to be "singer-songwriters" and if it is more advanced than, say, 1910 Fruitgum Co. bubblegum, and listeners consider it "prog," then so be it. Some act may be a little more "classical" influenced than others, some may like odd time-signatures, etc., but often it depends on the recording/song itself.

Here is my favourite record at the moment. I think it fits into a jazz prog fusion.
