One of the disappointing pieces of news I heard over this years Beatleweek was from Ian from Ringer. I bumped into him in the foyer of the Adelphi on convention day. I was wondering why they were not listed to play over Beatleweek and he informed me that the band had split or in his words 'all left him'. He didn't go into it any further but he looked pretty gutted. He wasn't even going to come to Beatleweek as a visitor but for Bill Heckle insisting he did.
For me, Ringer were synonymous with Beatle conventions and Beatleweek and without doubt one of the best bands in the history of Beatleweek. They where always a highlight for me every year and it doesn't quite feel the same without them playing. I know they had to split one day but it's a shame it's not in better circumstances with a farewell performance.

I know the guys all pretty well, (been getting up and playing beatles with them since i was 8 years old in my dad's pub!) and its a combination of some personal problems, and just wanting a rest. Chris is still playing around Dundee, and i've seen adverts for "The Happy Murdies" which i would guess is Ian's new band haha. Since i've known them though, they've split up a couple of times and always re-appeared eventually, so fingers crossed! Missed doing the ferry gig with them this year, last year was a total belter!

Just heard they're playing a one off show in Dundee tonight, with the best line up! Murdie, Gregor, Chris and Wullie. Brilliant!

Definitely just a one off do you think?

They must have reconciled some differences. Hopefully they will be back at Beatleweek next year and with Gregor in! The band isn't the same without him in it for me. His polo neck jumpers on stage are legendary!

Don't think it was anything to do with differences in the band. Just other commitments and some personal stuff i think.
Gregor is playing with deacon blue now, and i *think* maybe simple minds, so he's too busy!

That's great. I really rate Gregor as a musician. I think he has been playing with Deacon Blue for a couple of years hasn't he? He does seem to have a bit of 'star' quality that would make him fit right into these bands.
