Ha ha! I'd actually forgotten about that!!
I was thinking about best band on my way home on the train.... I think I would have to divide my votes into a few categories:
Best Beatle group in early to mid era (think suits and wigs!) Best all-round Beatle group Best big band (more than 5 members) Best solo years band Best acoustic/solo act Worst group
I keep thinking of extra categories (e.g. best non-Beatle-based band) but I'll stick to that I think!

Go on then!
Worst group is a bit dodgy though! You probably know who mine is and they don't live very far from me! You never know who is lurking around on the forum!

Best Beatle group in early to mid era - BLUE MARGARETS Best all-round Beatle group - REVOLVER Best big band - NUBE 9 Best solo years band - GET BACK BAND Best acoustic/solo act -MARCUS CAHILL Worst group - MX4 (sorry, really not my cuppa tea, and starting Come Together with the line "here come ol' flat-top mother fu**er" was a tad unnecessary I thought ! Apart from that, I don't think there were any really bad acts this year (OK, there was one other individual but I'm not naming names!). AL

i LOVE Nube 9 and Gleison Tulso. I also saw another 2 bands who's names i don't know. One had an accordian, and the other did a great version on Got My Mind Set On You. Both in the front of the cavern. Those guys were great!

I think the 2 bands i mean are The Yesterdays and BeApple. I think.... It was yesterdays. I saw them too in the front of the cavern on Tuesday. They did mainly solo stuff and their song choices where really interesting. I have seen rhythm guitarist in a previous Beatle band but can't remember who. They we're my favourite solo band. It would have been the Get Back Band but they never did my twice requested Maybe I'm Amazed!!

Even more so for the fact that his voice was completely shot on Tuesday but still managed to pull off some really good lead vocals.

Best band for me was Back From The USSR without a doubt. Its unusual to see a front woman but this girl was practically the female equivalent of Freddie Mercury. Her voice was the most powerful I've ever heard live. I was blown away. Then.. Nube 9 Clube Big Beatles ( I watched them perform the whole White Album. I was very impressed). Blue Margarets Revolver Yesterdays were very good too because they went out on a limb and did some solo stuff

I thought that the Yesterdays were excellent, as were Nube 9, The Repeatles and Back From The USSR. But the highlight for me had to be The Tearaways, again! On the Tuesday, they played two sets back to back in the Cavern Pub as the band that was due on after them hadn't turned up, then 1 hour later played a blinding set in the Cavern Club, with Joey Molland joining them. And anyone who saw them at the VIP party in the Adelphi (a last minute replacement for the Prellies, who I believe had gone home), will know what an amazing night that was! Very probably the best night I have had at any IBW!

Hi, Not sure I've been on here before- this was only our second BW (ridiculous really), saw Wings in 76 and plenty of tributes around the world. As a result of last year we went to a Beatle Happening in Finland in January c/o The Urban Crow and to Ab bey Road on the River in Louisville in May c/o The Elliotts. It's a fantastic weekend and we will return until the daisies are pushed up.Some observations:
BeApple- superb band and great choice of material
The Blue Margarets, I think everyone knows, a total thrill and they will be in Finland in January
The Tearaways - Californian charisma and we like their powerpop of Cheap Trick, The Knack and Badfinger
The Beatelles- The dark side, White Album etc. with a new guitar player, excellent
Rocks Off- best Stones tribute we've seen, the 68-74 period and they don't try to make Jagger funny- Gimme Shelter, is it funny?
BX4- Enjoyed the vocal quartet although I agree the male lead needs to curb his excesses
The Bitter End- amazing that these guys won a competition in Argentina to appear here- a revelation in the Ballroom
Revolver- Saw these guys in Kentucky too- a big hit as you'd expect
Johnny Silver- Strong Lennon performance, so wanted him to play Gimme Some Truth,(a Kenny Everett favourite no less)
The Urban Crow- excellent musicians and nice selection of songs
The Chelsea/Beatribes- Great in the Cavern, can't imagine singing Roll Over Beethoven in English
Enjoyed the whole deal, there's a lot of choice- also enjoyed the Small Fakers and Kappa performing The Sun sessions on the monday. We don't stay at the Adelphi, are we missing out, is it a scene? Can you sleep?
Someone should sort out the Crosby Suite on the day of the convention- those seats are ridiculous and spoil the dynamic of the groups performances. The Brother Creepers and The Repeatles were giving it loads but the seats gave it that end of the pier feel, soft.
We took the Mersey cruise with the Tearaways, Tripper and Pepper Hearts and had a right laugh although the sound was rubbish but great. And the all nighter, where was everyone? Hope these thoughts are useful I don't know who reads this stuff.Organisation in the Cavern was very good, we spend a lot of time in there because that's the deal really isn't it.
But then I've become a 60-66 guy with rockier stuff off the White album, I've Got a Feeling, Fixing a Hole, Martha, kind of guy these days. When Hey Jude, Winding Road and Let it Be are played live I'm running for the hills, but that's just a personal observation. Mustn't forget The Cavernites rocked it up. Thanks for another great time everyone

I totally agree - everyone was sandwiched around the bar or sat on the floor - not good! And I was there at the Cavern all-nighter!!
