Both are incredible albums and they are both often up there on the Best Albums ever lists. Which do you prefer though and why?

I don't know if it makes me a leader or a follower, but my vote agrees with 100% of the respondents thus far. Noticing I am the only respondent thus far reminds me of what that great philosopher Groucho Marx once said, that he'd never want to join any club that would have someone like him as a member.
But I chose Rubber Soul because somewhere along the line the harmonies on that album have become burned into my DNA so that they define good music. There's a circular argument in there somewhere, but who says that is actually a bad thing?

I agree on Rubber Soul though. I think its the perfect balance between there earlier pop/love song style and the more mature songwriting styles that got deeper with each album.

It depends on the day and the mood. I think Revolver has some better songs, but some worse as well...

I voted for Revolver because it's the Beatles true psychedelic masterpiece above Sgt. Pepper. Tomorrow Never Knows is a Lennon gem & one of the greatest psychedelic songs of all time.

I think Revolver is the best album of all time so it'd be follish not to vote Revolver.
However, Rubber Soul is my personal second favourite of all time.

I voted for Rubber Soul. A few years ago I would have said Revolver, but I've come to really appreciate the songwriting on RS. There are songs are Revolver that I think are better than anything on RS, but the overall feel of RS suits me better.

Revolver, because I think Lennon was white-hot on this album. His songs on this record are all filled with crunchy distorted guitars and marvelous vocals, not to mention some of Ringo's best drumming ever. I just really wish the Paperback Writer/Rain single was part of the album because "Rain" is in the same crunchy-awesome category as "She Said She Said", "And Your Bird Can Sing" and "Doctor Robert".
"I'm Only Sleeping" isn't really crunchy but it's got an amazing production (it sounds all woolly and dreamlike, evoking the lyrical content perfectly). Then there's TNK, one of the coolest Beatles tracks ever. And again Ringo's drumming is fantastic.
Also, George really delivers the goods on this one (Taxman, I Want To Tell You, Love You To).
Paul's songs, esp. "Got To Get You Into My Life" are great here, too.
I think all around it's just a killer album. Not that I don't like RS, but this one smokes in a way RS doesn't.

I voted for Revolver. But what I have come to learn over the past year is that both of those UK albums were split into 3 albums in the US (RS, Yesterday & Today, & Revolver). What I thought was the true start of artists really laying out an album in a creative fashion was actually Capitol Records shaping the US Revolver release. From RS. Capitol took 'Drive My Car', 'Nowhere Man', 'If I Needed Someone' from the UK RS, and 'I'm Only Sleeping', 'Doctor Robert' and 'Bird Can Sing' from UK Revolver. I've grown up with them so it's frozen in my head as 3 albums, not 2. I must admit because of this, the US version is a much more radical departure from RS than the UK albums. It is this US Revolver which I still marvel at.

Rubber Soul? Great album, no doubt about it.
But REVOLVER? One of the true masterpieces. As we said in another thread, John's on the money both as writer and in voice. Paul's songwriting matures here: did Paul McCartney write a better love song than For No One? Paul's musicianship, throughout, is masterful. George's songwriting comes on in leaps and bounds, and HIS playing is also top drawer. Ringo's drumming is also first class.
And not to forget the pyschedelic classics: I'm Only Sleeping, Tomorrow Never Knows, She Said, She Said - the Beatles were the leaders and masters of this genre.
Yes, REVOLVER for us!

Revolver. The Beatles just did invented new sounds and its just an amazing aural soundscape. Nothing like had been done at the time. And everyone rushed to copy the sound they created. Much like SPLHCB in 67.

For me,Revolver is the best, followed by Abbey Road and Rubber Soul. Im sure Im in the minority on this, but I place those albums over both Sgt Pepper and the White album.

I voted for Rubber Soul, mainly because it has Drive My Car on it, which is one of my favorite songs, because it's the first song I actually ever heard, back when I was about 3-4 weeks old. I actually started listening to Beatles albums when I was about 7 (No kidding.) Revolver is a great album as well, but I'm going to stick to Rubber Soul on this one.

Revolver was very revolutionary for its time, but Rubber Soul has some really great songwriting. To today's ears, Revolver is a better album, but RS charted better and was more well recieved. Personally, I can go either way but I find myself listening to Rubber Soul more often. The style and tone of the album is more consistent, I think.

It's a hard choice, but I think I'd have to go with Rubber Soul. There's alot of songs on Revolver that I love, but more often RS is the album I would put on loop and listen to.

Nothin' wrong with your ?? that i can see. Rubber Soul edges out Revolver by the oh so slightest. there seems to be a better vibe or feel to RS. WOW it is like someone asking a mother who her fav child is when I think more about it. I love both albums but RS just sounds better. And I assume we are talking about the UK releases. I grew up in California and there4 i grew up with the US releases of those two classix. Later. Jim in Calif, USA. ps - oh and the White Album (I luv it), well that is the kid that always smarts off or gets into trouble. number 9 number 9 number 9...
