I guess a few people have watched Help! recently - anyone else think that John steals the show? For me, he seems to have the funniest lines by far! "Why didn't you think of that ya twit?!"

"No thanks, I'm rhythm guitar and mouthorgan".
You're right, he has some great lines in that film.

I love that line when Paul just finishes playing "Yesterday" live in concert, John goes to the mic and says "Thank you Ringo, that was lovely"!
When you think about it, that was a double whammy John cruelty - stealing Paul's spotlight, and rubbing Ringo's face in it that he's just the drummer, no songs thank you very much. I'm sure (?) it wasn't calculated as such, but there it was. Come to think of it, he probably was jealous of Paul with that song ...

Come to think of it, he probably was jealous of Paul with that song ... Yep, love that - John also gives him a bunch of flowers but as he walks away he leaves Paul with just the stems! There was actually a huge bust up between John and Paul over the decision to perform Yesterday solo - I believe it was only performed as such for a short time. In later gigs it was arranged for a group performance.

If I recall Paul was also a bit ashamed of it as he felt John and the others would think him soft, but especially John. Tho, you still have to sense with Pauls ego, he still relished having such a spot light.
Sort of the opposite of this subject of Johns humor, but is still quite funny, is the bit in Beatles 1st US Visit. When George and Ringo are running about like goons and they cut to the moody looking John and Paul smoking ciggies and John mock laffs with a cripple looking snarl, "Ho ho!!" and then seriously says, "I'm not in a laffin mood even." Thats what I like most about John. The more caustic side of his personality. It makes me laff anyway.

There's a clip of an awards dinner and the camera pans along a line of guests and comes to john who is just about to sip a glass of Red Wine, seeing the camera he quickly puts the Wine down and picks up a cup of Tea and gives a huge grin!!, very Rutles and so funny..
