Hahaha, wow, isn't that something Typical John, isn't it? Reminds me of In His Own Write/Spaniard In The Works... same word-play type of style... That's awesome, The End

Glad you like it! John actually had his own column in Mersery Beat ("Beatcomber") some of which was later used for "In His Own Write". He also used to place witty adverts in the paper, some of which are hilarious!

It's such a shame John lost that sense of humour. It was in his songs right up The White Album, then seems to go AWOL forever. Such a big part of the man and its loss, I think, a large part to do with his decline. (it pops up again in Whatever Gets You Through The Night and hey ho - he has his first solo number one.)

His humour is quite evident on Rock'n'Roll though - especially "Just Because" which he'd never heard before Phil Spector suggested he record it!

As promised, here are some extracts from Mersey Beat written by John Lennon. Classified ads from 1961, some of which were written by John - can you tell which? John's Beatcomber column - some of these were later published in his books.

I've always thought that his style of writing is very reminiscent of Stanly Unwin. Here's some Stan for you, if you don't know him:
"Goodly Byeload loyal peeploaders, now all gatherymost to amuse it and have a tilty elbow or a nice cuffle - oteedee. Oh yes."

Oh yeah - without a doubt! I used to love listening to Stanly Unwin! No idea why he was used on The Small Faces' "Ogdens Nut Gone Flake" though - kinda spoils the album for me.
