I had issues with the script with Skyfall. Why plug in a rogue laptop to your network. Why would a highly trained and experience agent switch on a torch knowing assassins are looking for them .
In retrospect I think one of the issues all Bond movies have is that they by a process of osmosis reflect the action movies of the era they are made. Moore and the kung fu almost comic era of the early 70's Later Moore and the daft sci fi moments. Dalton and the harder action b movies of the 1980's.
Craig and a mixture of Bourne and Marvel damaged but somehow expected to save us all.
Bond seems a man out of time to me.

Also, I think the song in Spectre is the worst ever Bond song.

Yeh , I could`nt believe how bad the Spectre song was !
Sicario is another on my must watch list .
One I finally got to see was Wild starring Reece Witherspoon Biographical drama that really leaves you thinking that the human spirit is in all of us Witherspoon is fantastic in this and worthy of an Oscar nomination in my humble ! Blimey the Oscars are almost upon us Going to a tricky one to call this year !
As you may have noticed I hav`nt been about on this thread this last past year as I think it`s been a below average year for Films . But I will put it right this year and hope we can have a bit of a waffle about this years up and coming and films of the past
Two I must see at the Cinema are Revenant and the Hateful Eight .

Saw both during the Christmas break. To me The Revenent was like watching a Ray Mears episode. To be fair there were a couple of good scenes [the initial attack by the Indians, the Bear attack] mut apart from that it was pretty messy, because everyone looked the same covered up in furs with bushy beards. Tom Hardy was wasted. Hateful Eight I liked. Probably the best Tarantino for a while. It's really his take on an Agatha Christie type story.

I will give you my thoughts as soon as I`ve seen them . I`m a massive fan of Tarantino . But the two that I`ve not been to impressed with are Death Proof and I thought it was just a bit long ..Django Watched The Martian this week . Very good . Ridley Scott seems to be all for American flag flying in recent films and I cant understand why . He should have gone more gritty like back in the day with Alien The space ship in the film had been to Mars and back but still looked as though it just had come out of the shop . Good film though and if you like Sci Fi Which brings me too.. I`ve finally got Metropolis the Remastered re this and that version and I`m going to give it a watch tomorrow as it looks like rain . The weather , not the film . Another film I`m really excited about is RoomI think Brie Larson is a fabulous actress ( check out Short Term 12 ) and seems she could be taking home an Oscar for her performance in this apparently Oh and it seems she is going to break a big Gorilla`s heart in Kong ; Skull Island Yep another re boot

I watched The Martian this week, Mr Kite, and agree with you. I'm not a fan of sci-fi, but this film transcends the genre and works as a complex problem-solving story. Good cast, each giving a worthwhile performance. I had forgotten it was directed by Ridley Scott until the end credits, then realised why the film worked so well.
A couple I'd recommend are.....
and.....
Both really worth watching.

A very late Oscars post ...and other stuff ..Post ( and off the top of my head , so I may mess up facts n that ) reader
Well ! The Oscars ! What the hell happened ! The biggest winner of the night was a Sci Fi remake !!! Max Max or Fury Road as it seems to go by .
If I had chance to see all the up for Oscars films before hand I could have give my predictions But they have been so ... Average I did`nt fancy spending over a tenner to see... Average
But now I`ve seen nearly all barring Revenant
Best Picture Spotlight
Well, it had lots of great acting moments and the fella who plays the new Hulk was very good The topic was about the Catholic priests abusing kids like forever Nothing we did`nt know about there then . Pretty good , but no way that`s going down as a classic and with the subject matter it`s going to be swept uder the vestry door
So then for me my best film was the very brilliant Room Again touchy subject but this is a beautiful film with two fantastic actors Brie Larson and the little lad . You must watch this film ! Brie Larson won best actress , so say I !
The Big Short Best (?) Adapted (?!) Screenplay(?!!)
It should be called the Big S**te As tha`ts what it is . The plot A bloke knows all the banks are going to go tit`s up in 2008 like I say , s**te
Best Supporting Actor Mark Rylance - Bridge Of Spies Good film and a great performance , but if anything I thought Tom Hanks should have been up there for best Actor # As I hav`nt seen Revenant yet I can`t call Leo
that`s about it really Very un Oscar stuff this year and I just hope that they have a re count on best film and give it to Room
Also watched . The 5th Wave Ok beginning and then turned into a MTV movie ( no, that`s not good folks )
No Escape Great film ! Owen Wilsons best film since The Royal Tennebaums ! And Pierce Brosnan his best film since ... Ever !
The Martian Very good
The Hateful Eight Very good , but a bit too long
Everest Brilliant film !
Anomalisa What a film ! If you like weird and wonderful animation with an adult twist , watch this bonkers pic .
That`s it I think
Best film so far this(last) year Room Watch it .

I haven't seen all the films from your Oscars post, Mr Kite, but of the one's I've seen I agree with your evaluation. I only managed about ten minutes of "The Big Short" before giving up in bafflement. "No Escape" was a lesson in sheer tension. "Spotlight" told the story very well. I read the book recently, but the movie is much better. I've mentioned how much I enjoyed "The Martian" and "Bridge of Spies", both very good films.

I would like to know how the hell The Big Short got in the running for Oscars let alone money to make the damn thing ! I sat through it all just so I could have the right to say how bad it really is ! In the same boat as Oceans 12 / 13 or what ever as the worst films I`ve ever seen
The bit in No Escape when he was throwing his kids off the roof ! I was on the edge of my seat !

Terrific film. I never really liked Owen Wilson till he played that role. Piers Brosnan was a real bonus too. The story reminded me of the [true] tale of being besieged by a mob in the book, Once a Pilgrim

I don't think that film (No Escape) was very good for the Vietnam Tourist Attraction business. lol And they couldn't pay me enough money to work in a third world country, although some people love to do that.
There was a 'rumor' one time that Owen Wilson was the illegit son of Dennis Hopper.

Bond seems a man out of time to me. I agree. I miss the campy comedy of Sean Connery & Roger Moore era Bonds!

I actually enjoyed "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" Although Lazenby is widely thought to be the worst Bond, I disagree, That title goes to Timothy Dalton. OHMSS had a great villian [Telly Savalas] a terrific leading lady [Diana Rigg], superb action scenes, and a driving score by John Barry. I really liked Daniel Craig in "Casino Royale" but the recent two were pretty flat. My favourite 007 films are "From Russia with Love" "Casino Royale" "You only live twice" "OHMSS"

OHMSS is the best plotted movie, Casino Royale is great as well. I would not be surprised if they remade that one. Have not seen the last one yet.
