I re-discovered this album several years ago and thought "Hmm, I like that now" but recently I was talking to someone who hates it.
What do you think of it?

I LOVE this album - used to play the tape all the time.
Distractions, Put it There & This One are some of my all time fave Macca songs

I agree, a damn good album, although I remember not liking too much at the time, I'm glad I rediscovered it a few years back.
And yeah, for me also, evokes memories of the tour around that time - Kings Dock, Liverpool 1990.

The extended single version of "Figure of Eight" is so much more powerful than the album version... which of course is the way they did it live and included on "Tripping the Live...." So sorry he dropped that one and "My Brave Face" from the live sets, but you gotta lose something to get something. This year's inclusion of "Junior's Farm" and "The Night Before" as examples

Great album. My Brave Face was his best song in a long time. Elvis Costello was a good influence on this. Thing with McCartney is he needs someone to tell him when he's being a knob

I just happened to have listened to that album today...
This was the first Paul studio album after I started listening to his solo stuff (when "All The Best" came out) so it has a special place in my heart. It's the album that was never out of my car cassette deck when I learned to drive in 1989.
It was interesting listening to it today, immediately after listening to McCartney and McCartney II, 'cos it's just so much more commercial and "polished" than those 2 albums.
I think up to, and including "This One" this album is so strong and packed with great songs, but it's definitely front loaded with the best stuff 'cos it trails off from that point. That Day Is Done and How Many People are OK but Don't Be Careless Love and Motor of Love are, in my opinion, 2 of the worst songs of his entire career.Awful.
Ou est la Soleil to finish, and I like that one, very reminiscent of the experimental nature of Press To Play.
Overall, his best album of the 80s for me, and a great album to tour on his return to live music.
Also, the accompanying "Put It There" documentary, wow, how many times have I watched and enjoyed that over the years? Some of the live performances in that are fantastic, with Ain't That A Shame being a highlight, along with probably the best live version of Let It Be I think I've ever seen!
