Enjoyed the song a lot. Cracking guitar solo at the end Thought the production sounded a bit dated and could use a bit of work though. What software are you using? There are quite a lot of good free VST's on the go that are really good. This compressor in particular is great for a vintage vocal sound - www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?item=2&subItem=5Also, not free, but Waves plug ins are great for EQ and reverbs. Both of these would help a lot i think. I thought when the everything kicked in the overall mix seemed a bit thin and harsh. What did you mix on? Could use a bit more of kick in the low mids and bass i reckon. The synth strings sounded a bit 80's. Was it synth strings in particular you wanted? There are loads of sample based orchestral libraries that sound amazing if you wanted to go for a more authentic string section. But, like i said, enjoyed the song!

Cracking demo mate!!! Kinda reminded me of Paul Weller's older stuff in places (meant as a compliment)! Agree with Revolver regarding the production, but it's a demo and happens to urinate over the production in the demo I posted a few days back! Good stuff!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree with what you are saying regarding the production when you listen to it on the PC but it sounds completely different burned to a CD and played on a hi fi. In the car it sounds so bottom endy it's unbelievable. If you wouldn't mind could you listen to it on another system and tell me if you still think it sounds the same. I'm not to sure how to go about getting a good 'generic' sound that would sound good on all systems.
I'm using a Korg D1600 mk II (I mixed it on this) with a slaved Yamaha QY700 sequencer. I mastered it on Cool Edit Pro 2.
As you can probably guess my forte is not mixing and mastering. I would prefer more vintage strings. The synth strings were the closest I could get to what I wanted on the QY700.
I really appreciate the feedback and ideas on this but if you could find the time to listen to it on another system and give me your opinion then, I would be very grateful.
Paul Weller eh? I might send it off to his publishers. I have three in total waiting to send off.
Thanks.

Hey, I'm listening at work, so it's a pretty good set up. I have a pair of ADAM P11A's and a set of beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's.
The best thing for getting a good balanced mix that works on different systems is to mix with 2 sets of speakers. Do your main mixing on a decent pair, but always compare it as you go with a cheaper set, as well as a quick listen through headphones. Also, you might want to check your car stereo settings if it's really bass heavy - unless your car has a subwoofer in it?

Hi there. Well that's a pretty good set up so I suppose you must be right. There is no subwoofer in the car and the bass is set much lower than the treble and it's still incredibly bassy. Perhaps there is something up with the amp.
Thanks for getting back to me. I will do a bit more work on it.

I don't quite have a set up like Revolver's but did listen through my Technics system - it seemed that the mid-range was a little too harsh and not much bottom end. All easily fixable though! Still very impressed - got any more? AL
