In this month's issue of Mojo there's an interview with Ringo. The interviewer mentions a fact that I found incredible:
Apparently someone listened to every single take of every single song that the Beatles ever recorded and found out that in all his years as a Beatle, Ringo screwed up a total of just eight takes. Eight bad takes in eight years, that's just AMAZING.

Quite frankly I am not surprised!
I honestly don't know why Ringo's legend isn't what it should be! Drummers know just how good he was (i.e. VERY) but for some reason he's thought of as bit of a joke by the general public - whereas Charlie Watts never has a word spoken against him (but that's probably because the general public haven't heard of him)!
Personally, I have fought Ringo's corner on MANY occasions - he absolutely deserves his place in the Beatle legend!

Quite frankly I am not surprised! I honestly don't know why Ringo's legend isn't what it should be! Maybe Ringo has to shoulder a bit of that responsibility. He has fostered the "goodtimes guy" image, and in most Beatle interviews he doesn't seem to take the whole thing very seriously (probably quite rightly). His constant self -effacing and buffonary doesn't help. His image just isn't of a serious musician (thankgod) but that might be affecting peoples perception of his talents. Charlie on the other hand, is much more mysterious, and I've read interviews where he's called Stones music "kids music" that pays the bills while his real passion is jazz. That probably gives him a lot of cred in some peoples eyes.

You're probably right. I actually find Watts' drumming style (in the Stones) quite annoying - he refuses to hit the hi-hat and snare at the same time so he skips a beat on the hi-hat! You'll see it in every single video!
I don't think Watts is anywhere near as good as Ringo - I am happy to be proved wrong though!
If anyone can prove me wrong on this point, please post a track to demonstrate :-)

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, I am a HUGE Stones fan (at least of their material from 1963 to 1971)!!

From what I've heard of Charlie's drumming, he hardly makes breaks and makes the drumming as simple as possible. Let's say it's a style... I certainly prefer Ringo's way of drumming.
