A bit overhyped imo. They played on Pinkpop here this spring, a big festival in the south of the country, which is televised as well. I stroke a lot of people that the band failed to make a spectaculair show of it. They played well, but that was about it. Nothing special.

I really disliked them for some reason when they first came out as they hit us so fast and and so hugely i just thought they better be worth it, then i heard i bet you look good ....... and thought what a load of XXXX.
And because they were being built up as the next beatles and there song was pure mince a disliked them even more, how dare they get all this attention and bands like ........ put all there effort into building a career and they're music is 10x better than yours yet they get hardly any attention ?.
But after all the fuss died down and they were no longer hot property and just as popular as any other band i listened to there second album and thought it was quite good, the listened to the first album it was a bit better, but it aint no blur, oasis, smiths nevermind the beatles

i think because the NME has a reputation for bigging up bands, "they're the biggest band since last weeks issue."
arctic monkeys in my opinion have been unfairly labelled as one of NME's overhyped bands, as i think their music is really good and gave British music the lift it needed. their debut album is one of the finest i've ever heard. also their songwriter and lead singer/guitarist Alex Turner's honest take on life in his lyrics is very appealing as well
