Way back in those halcyon days (1960s to be exact), there were often at least 2 separate single releases of the same song by different artistes, usually a USA version and a UK version in the hope that they would have a hit record. One such song was 'Green Tambourine' in 1968 which of course was a massive hit for The Lemon Pipers, hittting gold on the USA Billboard chart. A little known band named Sun Dragon (sometimes referred to as Sundragon) from the UK released the song as a single and it bombed. I loved the song way back then, and still do. It conjures up some wonderful memories of post 'Summer Of Love' times and heady 'experiences' at all-nighters. Anyway, I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that I marginally prefer the Sun Dragon version - not because I'm British - as it doesn't seem as 'contrived' as The Lemon Pipers' version. They're both similar actually. See what you think? This is Sun Dragon and my next post will be The Lemon Pipers. Thanks for posting this - I had absolutely no idea that there were two versions! The Lemon Pipers track didn't load for some reason, but I am VERY familiar with that version anyway. For me, the definitive version will always be the Lemon Pipers but what a great version by Sun Dragon though - I must admit that I do prefer their drum sound however I miss the over-the-top delay effects of the American version. Top post Arthur! I guess you've already checked this post out: beatleforum.proboards42.com/index.cgi?board=sixties&action=display&thread=1197978184What are your thoughts?

The Lemon Pipers' version should load now for those not familiar with the song - and for yourself to give it a whirl one more time! My thoughts about 'Bend Me Shape Me' are that I am more familiar with the Amen Corner version but The American Breed have a certain 'energy' about the delivery that makes this boy (artistic licence!) prefer their version. I notice that you have started a thread 'UK vs USA' so when I next frequent this forum I'll try to think of some sixties singles by way of contribution. By the way, what do you think of your Roulettes CD?

Nice one I'd never even heard the Sun Dragon version before and it's great listening to the differences, which in this particular comparison, aren't too many! I was aware of the American Breed's Bend Me Shape Me but didn't realise how different they were - it's only when you listen to both tracks back to back that the differences become apparent. Hopefully we can find a lot more examples of this phenomenon now
