Well, to a super-professional - they sing a little out of tune. It sounds GOOD to pop people. But the Beatles and (especially) the Beach Boys are worse. But not bad, just loose - too loose to be in a professional choir!
Hey Michelle - check out "Bus Stop" and "Jennifer Eccles" and "Carousel" - my three favorite Hollies (60s!) tracks.

Yeah, I am not batty! I'm not a super professional, but I thought the Hollies did sing out of tune more than I would expect. I notice this more than on Beatles songs, maybe because I've lost the ability to "hear" rather than "experientially remember" Beatles songs when I listen them. Unless I'm trying to learn them to play live ... then I hear every wrong beat and note! Though since I'm not a singer, I don't focus on the voices in the same way.

Hi - I'll need to pop it in the car (taking a 2 hr round trip tomorrow for Thanksgiving), but off the top of my head, in "King Midas in Reverse", the hook is very off on my recording, the words in capital letters; "King Midas with a CURSE, King Midas in reVERSE". Not the the fact that it is vibrato (the note going back and forth rapidly), but rather that the vibrato seems "off" ... like it was me trying to do it instead of some really great vocal group! I'll try to remember to bring it in the car, and report back if I notice anything else. Happy Thanksgiving all! Hmm. Why don't we have a close listen to it and report back? Tell me what you think : [music]http://www.filefreak.com/pfiles/46211/Hollies%20-%20King%20Midas%20In%20Reverse.mp3[/music]

The Hollies are one of the greatest British Invasion bands of all time. They were more of a singles group than an album one in the first place. Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress, He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, Carrousel & Bus Stop are timeless classics. I know they're still around, which is amazing & whatever happened to their lead vocalist.

whatever happened to their lead vocalist. Which one - they had a few! Graham Nash joined Crosby, Stills and Nash (and sometimes Young) though of course.

Well, Alan Clarke was thé leadvocalist of the band. He quit a couple of years ago because he felt his voice was letting him down. I think that only Tony Hicks is the only remaining original member, but I'm not sure that even he's still around.

Terry Sylvester (of the Swinging Blue Jeans) replaced Graham Nash.
This was their classic line-up: Allan Clarke - lead vocals Graham Nash - guitar, vocals Tony Hicks - guitar, vocals Eric Haydock - bass Bobby Elliott - drums
This is their current line up apparently: Peter Howarth - lead vocals Steve Lauri - guitar, vocals Tony Hicks - guitar, vocals Ray Stiles - bass Bobby Elliott - drums Ian Parker - keyboards

Ah, so Bobby Elliott is still there as well. Ray Stiles used to be in Mud if I'm correct.

I love the Hollies. All the aforementioned songs are great, but I also would include "I Can't Tell the Bottom from the Top", "Long, Dark Road", "Sorry Suzanne", "Pay You Back with Interest", "Sandy" and "The Very Last Day".
