Just thought I'd repeat my question. Did John sing on the chorus of Carry That Weight? This is a genuine question, not a piece of trivia.

I would say the answer is "no one knows" until someone knows for sure.

Lewisohn's book is a little vague on this point!
The basic recording of Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight (recorded as a complete piece) started on 2 July 1969 and it is noted that the choruses of Carry That Weight were added the next day by Paul, George and Ringo - John Lennon would not have been in attendance due to his car accident in Scotland which meant he was hospitalised there until 6 July.
However, on 30 July 1969 (my third birthday!!!) there was marathon recording and mixing session which included guitar overdubs onto two of John's tracks - Come Together and Polythene Pam - so I think it can be safely assumed that Lennon would have been in attendance. In the same session, additional vocals were added to Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight. So, if Lennon was in the studio, I would guess he would have been involved in the Carry That Weight choruses.

Again, "no one knows" is not such a bad answer. It's the BEST answer for most Beatles studio questions, but so many people are desperate to know "what guitar is on..." or "Who played...." and we just don't have a good way to know.
With more access to the tapes, maybe, but we probably won't get that...
